Parishad honours
students
Ludhiana, October 24 These students secured 85 per cent and above in the matriculation examinations conducted by the CBSE in 2004.
The three toppers were: Varundeep Singh Mann (96.4 per cent), Arun Kumar (96 per cent) and Garima Dhingra (95 per cent).

Pak Sufi singers perform in city
Ludhiana, October 24 After giving their performance in Amritsar, the two singers presented some soul-stirring music here. The Ludhiana Sanskritik Samagan has brought these artistes to the city for a two-day cultural extravagance. Prof Sarvat Ali, in charge of the Music Department of the Music College of Lahore, introduced the two artistes to the audience. Iqbal Bahoo started the evening by singing “Aaj Aakhan Waris Shah nu kiten kabran viccho bool,” written by Amrita Pritam depicting the pain of a woman. He presented some couplets by Baba Sheikh Farid. His next rendering brought out the importance of the mother in one’s life and how unfortunate are those who have lost their mothers. His rendering of “Heer” created an aura of awe and his last song “bol mitti deya bawayan” of Sultan Bahoo made the eyes of listeners moist. Saiyan Zahoor sang with his ektara. His ektara was beautifully decorated with colourful balls and his quaint dancing reminded one of those Gypsy singers of yore. His rendering of “Ni mein kamli, ni mein kamli” in his unique style and his bursting into dance steps in ecstacy filled the audience with tremendous joy. He sang “kalamns” written by Sultan Bahoo and narrated a part of Bulle Shah’s life and sang his kafi. Mr Anurag Verma, Deputy Commissioner, who was the chief guest, honoured the artistes. |
Exhibition of Dhawan’s paintings
Ludhiana, October 24 Sanjay Dhawan says that he has been interested in paintings as he won a couple of prizes during his childhood in painting. He held his first solo show in Art Folio in Chandigarh in March this year and Spectrum is his second exhibition in the city.. Sanjay Dhawan has painted some theme-based paintings. His temples depict lot of different religious
institutions in the crowded cities of today. His painting titled Horizon, Harmony and Tulips are also fetching. Some of his paintings are influenced by the concern for the society while others are reflection of memories of brief encounters with village and sea life. His pastels show his mastery over that medium while his paintings in acrylic are also attractive. |

Milk producers organise medical camp
Ludhiana, October 24 The camp was inaugurated by Mr Raghbir Singh Saharan Majra while Bakshi Mahinder Singh, chairman of the hospital presided over a seminar on general health awareness organised on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Gopal Kakkar, GM of the local milk plant, said efforts were afoot by Milkfed for increasing the number of women dairy farmers. Various schemes and incentives have been finalised and will be unveiled by the organisation soon. He also announced that besides ways and means of rearing livestock, more such camps will also be organised by them. The team of doctors led by Dr R.S. Sodhi, examined the patients, who were also given medicines free of cost. Senior officers of the cooperative and leading dairy farmers were also present on the occasion. |

Free diagnostic camp for piles
Doraha, October 24 A total of 300 patients suffering from piles were examined. Poor patients who would undergo surgery would pay a nominal fee. Dr Roy also addressed a press conference and related his experiences about the handling of piles through this advanced technique. |

Sacred Heart School defeat Sanatan Vidya Mandir
Ludhiana, October 24 Batting first after winning the toss, Sacred Heart School, thanks to batting by Varun Chitkara (44), Lalit Malhotra (40) and Hardeep (40), made 189 runs in 39.3
overs. Sanatan Vidya Mandir School, could muster 87 runs after 22.5 overs. The main architect of SVM School’s collapse was Keshav who scalped five victims after conceding just 16 runs. Gurm wins golf tournament
Ludhiana, October 24 Six out of these contestants, two each in three categories — 0-8 handicp, 9-16 handicap and 17-24 handicap — romped home to secure positions and qualified for the Northren Regions final to be conducted in Gurgaon on November 7. TPS Gurm came out triumphant in the 0-8 handicap category, followed by Balwant Singh Cheema while in the 9-16 handicap category, the first two places were annexed by Amarinder Singh and Col S.S. Grewal, respectively. In the third category ( 17-24 handicap), Rajat Bhatia finished ahead of others. The second spot was bagged by Inderjit Singh Jawanda. TPS Gurm won the longest drive prize with a scoope of 300 yards and Iqbal Singh clinched the closest to the pin prize. Mr M.K. Sabharwal, Controller, Sales, UB Group, was the chief guest at the concluding function and distributed the prizes. The third leg of the championship will be held in Lucknow on October 30. The winners at all regional intra-club championships will compete at Victoria Country and Golf Resorts in Kandy, Sri Lanka, in December for the title of Mcdowell’s Signature Champion Golf Club of India, Mr Sarbharwal said. |
