ORGANISED: The State Bank of Patiala (SBOP), Agriculture Development branch organised a farmers meet at Government Senior Secondary School, Jaloor, 10 km from here, on Thursday. Numerous farmers and sarpanches of various villages, including Nangal, Kheri, Sekha, Jaloor and Jodhpur, participated in the meet. Mr C.S. Kang, Deputy General Manager, SBOP, was the chief guest. While addressing the gathering, he called upon the farmers to make the optimum utilisation of the bank’s farmer friendly schemes.

LOAN MELA: The State Bank of Patiala (SBOP), Guru Nanak Dev Thermal Plant (GNDTP) branch, organised a loan mela for the employees of the GNDTP here on Thursday. Mr M.S. Walia, Chief Manager (advertising), said loans worth Rs 55 lakh were given to the employees of the GNDTP under 'Loan Suvidha Yojna'.

REMEMBERED: The Bharatiya Kisan Union (Ekta) on Thursday remembered Gurdev Singh, a farmer, who was killed during a ‘rail roko’ agitation last year, at his native village, Modchadatsingh, on his first death anniversary. Addressing farmers on the occasion, the union leaders said continuing the stir for the demands for which Gurdev Singh laid down his life would be a true tribute to him.

CHECK-UP CAMP: A two-day free gynaecological check-up camp began at Sidhu Hospital here on Friday. A public awareness programme would also be organised and people would be educated about common gynaecological problems.

Hoshiarpur
BODY FOUND: Jagtar Singh (40), son of Mr Mohinder Singh of Thinda village, Garhdiwala, was found murdered at the tubewell of Mr Malkiat Singh of the village on Wednesday. The police has registered a case under Section 302 of the IPC.

DOWRY CASE: On the complaint of Ms Kamlesh Rani, daughter of Mr Madan Lal of Ajram, the Sadar police on Wednesday registered a case under Sections 406 and 498 A of the IPC against her husband Devinder, father-in-law Tarsem Lal, mother-in-law Vidhya Devi and sister-in-law Jotti, all of local Mohalla Aslamabad. The complainant stated that her in-laws tortured her for bringing more dowry.

NSS CAMP: A medical check-up camp and the conclusion of a first-aid training camp marked the seventh day of the NSS camp at Kamla Lohtia Sanatan Dharam College here on Friday. A motivation lecture on ‘Role of ethics and values in life’ and a donation campaign for distribution of sewing machines among needy women were also held.

BLOOD DONATION: Swami Vivekanand Institute of Paramedical Studies organised a blood donation camp on Friday. A total of 100 persons donated blood.

RATH YATRA: The police has made elaborate arrangements for the smooth conduct of the annual Lord Jagannath rath yatra, which will be taken out from Durga Mata Mandir, near the Jagraon bridge, tomorrow afternoon. A total of 250 policemen will be posted along the route of the rath yatra and 350 traffic police personnel will be pressed into service.

IDOL INSTALLATION: The Shri Sai Baba Trust would organise a two-day idol installation ceremony at Shri Sai Baba Mandir in Satjot Nagar on the Dugri road on Saturday and Sunday, according to a press note. The functions will include bhandara and shobha yatra.

Jaycee’s convention: For the first time in the last 50 years Indian Jaycees is holding its National Convention ‘Balle Balle NATCON’ in this part of country from November 4. Host chapters are Ludhiana City Jaycees, Ludhiana Central Jaycees, Ludhiana Midtown Jaycees, Ludhiana Elite Jaycees and Ludhiana Young Jaycees.

NEW BDPO: Mr A.S. Gujral took charge as Block Development and Panchyat Officer here on Friday in Place of Mr Gurnetar Singh, who has been transferred to Machhiwara. Mr Gujral was earlier posted at Zeera.

Charge Taken: Mr Jasveer Singh Chahal took charge as Range Officer in the forest office here on Friday while Mr Darshan Singh Gill has been transferred to Jagraon. Mr Chahal was earlier posted at Patiala.

Hisar
BURIED: Bhale Ram, a labourer, died after he was buried under mud while digging a well at Kirtan village near here, on Thursday. A case has been registered and his body sent for post-mortem.

KILLED: Dr Kamal Gupta of Agroha Medical College died when his motor cycle collided with a car. He was on his way to Hisar near Dhandoor village here, on Wednesday. The doctor belonged to Bathinda.

REMANDED: The in-laws of Sunita, who was allegedly killed by her husband Shiv Kumar at Matarshyam village, have been sent to judicial custody. The in-laws include Sunita’s father-in-law Sohan Lal, mother-in-law Dhankauri Devi and brothers-in-law Suresh and Shamsher.

BEATEN UP: A youth, Rajpal, of Gohana town, 35 km from here, was allegedly beaten up by the Government Railway Police (GRP) on the complaint of a woman, said to be his relative, who had alleged that the youth tries to molest her. The youth has been admitted to a hospital and stated to be serious.

INJURED: A girl, Uma, sustained burn injuries when her clothes caught fire while preparing food in her house at Rathdhanna village, 5 km from here, on Friday. She was admitted to the Civil Hospital.

INJURED: A 23-year-old unidentified youth fell down from a train near Rajpura railway station. 6 km from here, on Friday. He was admitted to the Civil Hospital.

ARRESTED: The police has arrested, Sharwan Kumar, Birju and Subhash, alias Kalia, in connection with the alleged murder of a young housewife, Meeta, in Sector 14 here.

ASSAULTED: Sumeet, a student of CRA College, was allegedly assaulted by a group of youths near Chah Dayalwala chowk here on Thursday. He was injured during the incident and admitted to the Civil Hospital.

ATTACKED: Mr Devi Singh of Sandal Khurd village and Mr Parveen Kumar of Shahzadpur village, were injured when they were allegedly attacked by a truck driver and his accomplices near Sandal Kalan village, 5 km from here, on Friday.

Hamirpur
SUICIDE: Kamla Devi (59) of Booni village allegedly committed suicide by setting herself on fire on Thursday. According to a report, she was not mentally sound. The Nadaun police has registered a case.

Kangra
KILLED: District police chief S. Zahoor H. Zaidi said here on Thursday that a child, Vishew Jeet (7), a resident of Chontra Gorukpur (UP), was hit by a Qualis at Bral in the district. He succumbed to his injuries on his way to hospital. The police has registered a case under Sections 279 and 304 A of the IPC and the driver of vehicle has been arrested, he added.
