National Blood Donation Day observed
Ludhiana, October 1 The Ludhiana branch of chartered accountants celebrated the day by donating more than 100 units of blood along with their family members. Ms Sudha Sharma, Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Ludhiana, inaugurated the blood donation camp and appreciated the efforts made by chartered
accountants for society at large. Dr Daljit Singh, Principal, DMC and Hospital, delivered the welcome address and thanked Ludhiana Branch of CAs for their efforts and said the chartered accountants are the most educated class of society and then efforts will also encourage the other members of society to come forward for such a noble cause. Mr Ashok Bhandari, Chairman, Ludhiana Branch, thanked Dr G.S. Wander, chief cardiologist, and Dr Amarjit Kaur, Head for the Department of Transfusion Medicine for organising the camp. |
35 donate blood at camp
Khanna, October 1 Later on a team of blood bank Khanna headed by Dr N.P.S. Virk In charge Blood Bank, organised a blood group testing camp at A.S. College for Women Khanna. Blood Groups of more than 100 girl students were tested. |
Free polio surgical camp
Ludhiana, October 1 In the three-day long camp over 50 surgeries for the disabilities due to polio will be performed by three orthopaedic surgery teams lead by Dr M.K. Mam, Head and Professor, Department of Orthopaedics, CMCH. Speaking on the occasion, Dr John Abraham, Medical Superintendent, CMCH, said that CMCH aims at providing the much-needed health care to all irrespective of caste or creed. He added that organising such camps will help in the polio eradication from our country. He also appreciated the efforts of SVSS to come forward for such a noble cause. |

Inter-varsity hockey meet from Nov 5
Ludhiana, October 1 Giving this information, Mr Amrik Singh Minhas, president, Ludhiana Sportsmen Hockey Welfare Association, said a decision in this regard was taken at a meeting of the association held here on Thursday. This tournament is being organised to promote the game at the university level. Top eight hockey teams of the country will be vying for top honours during this six-day tournament. Teams include last year’s champions, Chaudhary Devi Lal University, Sirsa, Delhi University, Jamia Milia Islamia University, Delhi, Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Lucknow, Panjab University, Chandigarh, Punjabi University, Patiala, Bangalore University and Chennai University. Mr Minhas further said that the Indian Hockey Federation has recognised this tournament as grade-I. On the basis of the performance during this tournament, the Combined University XI would be selected which would take part in the All-India Nehru Gold Cup Hockey Tournament. This tournament has been included in the All-India Universities Sports calender for which Mr Minhas expressed gratitude towards Mr Gurdeep Singh, secretary, University Sports Board. Mr Minhas said this tournament was being sponsored by Namdhari Seeds of Bangalore. Mr Udhay Singh Namdhari has been appointed the patron of the tournament committee while the former national hockey coach Rajinder Singh will be the technical director. Dr Kulwant Singh, Mr Jarnail Singh Malhi, Mr Ajaipal Singh Romy, Mr Sukhwinder Singh, Mr Parveen Kumar, Prof Kanwaljeet Singh, Mr Amarjit Singh, Mr Iqbal Singh, Mr Tara Singh Sandhu and Mr Randeep Singh Tony Sandhu were among others who attended the meeting chaired by Mr Minhas. |
Ludhiana lads record easy wins
Ludhiana, October 1 In the first round, Raghav Goel, after surviving some anxious moments initially, romped home victorious 15-10 and 15-1 against Shubham of Amritsar while another local lad, Puneet Inder scored a facile win over Brahmjot of Patiala whom he pipped 15-1, 15-3. In other matches, Rupinder Singh of Ropar drubbed Sunil of Ludhiana 15-2, 15-1; Sukhjit Singh of Patiala got walk over Harcharan Singh of Nawanshahr; Komalpreet of Sangrur trounced Suriya Goel of Ludhiana 15-0, 15-2; Parnit Gupta of Ludhiana got walk over Pardeep Singh of Ferozepore and Abhinav Sekhri of Amritsar got walk over Rajat of Ropar. Earlier, Mr Sohan Lal Pahwa, chairman, Avon Cycles, inaugurated the tournament in which more than 150 boys and girls are taking part. |
