Floorball camp at Sacred Heart
Mandi Gobindgarh, September 22 Speaking on the occasion, Mr Jolly pointed out that their school was first in the state and the seventh school in the country to have organised such a camp. The aim of the camp was to promote floorball in the region. Mr Jarco, coach from Finland, has been invited to impart training to students. Floorball is played on a cemented floor having 40 x 20 yard dimensions. The number of players on each side varies from 6 to 8, besides goal keepers on both sides. The game is played with hockey-like sticks and a ball weighing 27 grams. Ms Arvind Sakar Sudha, Principal of the school, said that the game was one of the safest games with little danger of injury to players. The school aimed not only to provide formal education to children but also to develop a sportsman spirit among them. An exhibition match would be organised at the concluding ceremony of the camp on Saturday. A formal invitation had been extended to the Chandigarh floor ball Association for an exhibition match, she added. Talking with mediapersons about the history of the game, Mr Jarco said that floorball was a joint venture of three countries-Switzerland, Sweden and Finland. |
Baljinder bags silver in
badminton
Ludhiana, September 22 According to Mr Maan Singh, sports secretary, LIC, Ludhiana, during the tournament two shuttlers from the Ludhiana division, Baljinder Singh and Sanjiv Kalia, took part in the men’s category. The tournament was conducted on the knock-out basis in which participants from the North zone, comprising 15 divisional offices, participated. Baljinder Singh who got direct entry in the tournament on the basis of his excellent performance in the All-India Badminton Tournament held in Hyderabad last year, while Sanjiv Kalia earned entry after defeating Amarjit Singh in the Divisional Level Badminton Tournament, organised by the Ludhiana division at the Shastri hall of Guru Nanak Stadium here last month. Now, Baljinder Singh would represent the North zone in the All-India Badminton Tournament to held on October 5 at Dehra Dun. |
