14 foreign delegates to attend kisan mela
Ludhiana, September 22 The foreign delegates who have confirmed their participation, include Mr Bobo Sanginov, President, Tajik Academy of Agricultural Sciences and Mr Gangiboy Sanginov, Director, Research Institute of Soil Science (Tajikistan), Mr Valiakhmed Mukhamejanov, Director, Research Institute of Water Management and Ms Sara Ramazanova, Head of the Department, Research Institute of Crop Husbandry and Plant (Kazakhstan), Mr Rakhimdjan Ikramov, Director, Central Asian Research Institute of Irrigation (Saniri), Mr Bahodir Halikov, Head of Department, Research Institute of Cotton Growing, Mr Akmal Karimov, National Professional Officer, Soil and Water Management, International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (CARDA) and Ms Liona Koronenko from Uzbekistan, Mr Asanbek Ajibekov, Director-General, Centre of Agricultural Research and consulting services (Kyrgyzstan), Mr Malik Bekenov, Deputy Director General, Centre for Agricultural Research and Consulting Services (Kyrgyzstan), Mr Eziz Hankuliyev, Deputy Director, Research Institute of Agriculture, Mr Yazberdi Saopiyev, Scientist, Research Institute of Agriculture (Turkmenistan), Mr Iran Jumshudov, Zero Tillage Specialist, Centre of Agrarian Sciences (Azerbaijan ), Mr Seymur Safarli, Research Institute of Erosio and Water Science (Azerbaijan). Dr Amrik Singh Sandhu, Director of Extension Education, said that after the inauguration of the mela, the VIP visitors would be taken around the exhibition in the main pandal. A question-answer session will be held after the lunch. Prize distribution function for the winners will be held on September 24 at 12.15 pm. Diversifying farming to conserve the natural resources is the main theme of this mela. The different stalls related to new varieties of seed, latest scientific research technologies and the agricultural machinery will be installed by the leading companies and PAU departments in order to make the farmers aware of the new trends of farming. |
Colleges celebrate principals’ election as senators
Ludhiana, September 22 Ms Harmit Kaur has been elected to the senate for the third time in succession. She became the Principal of Ramgarhia Girls College in August 1983. She says her aim has been overall development of the students’ personality. She took the initiative of organising a Panjab University youth festival in the college for the first time. At different times she has been nominated to various bodies, like Vice-Chairman of Panjab Extension Library for two terms, the College Development Council of Panjab University for three terms (still continuing) and to the Academic Council for two terms. She has also been member of the Examination Reform Committee. At the Master Tara Singh Memorial College for Women, a warm welcome awaited Dr Madanjit Sahota as she entered the gates today. Students and staff members felicitated her on the election. Recently, a voluntary organisation, the India International Friendship Society, conferred upon Dr Sahota the Bharat Jyoti award. The Punjab Rattan award was also presented to her on the 37th SMISS annual award function last November. Since her becoming the principal of the college, several infrastructural facilities have been created. The college has diversified to meet the changing requirements of the academic and professional scenario. In additions to academic and cultural excellence, the college has also been focusing on sports. A hostel was recently constructed to cater to students from rural and semi-urban areas. |
Cultural function held at management institute
Ludhiana, September 22 Singing (Girls): Ramandeep Kaur of BBA-V got the first prize. Deepti Jalani of BCA-I got the consolation prize. In the dance competition, group comprising Raman, Rishi and Mrigbir won the consolation prize. In extempore, Sumeet Kaur of BCA-III got the first prize, Swati of BBA-III was second, Anand Vohra of BBA-I (A) got the third prize. In declamation contest, Sumeet Kaur of BCA-III was first, Chirag Bhatia of BCA-I (A) was second. Dr A.S Bansal, Director, GNIMT, said various events in the fine arts category like flower arrangement, rangoli, painting, collage-making, cartooning, mehndi will be organised next Saturday. He explained that such activities are a regular feature at GNIMT as these are very important for the overall personality development of students. FUNCTION: The annual prize distribution function of SD Girls Senior Secondary School was held at the auditorium of Kamla Lohtia SD College here today. Ms Sunita Bhandari, Principal of the school, read out the annual report. The school students presented various items. The main attraction of the function was bhajan and Shiv stuti recitation. Other items included bhangra, action songs, group songs, giddha, garbha and a Cindrella play enacted by the students. The members of the Sanatan Dharam Sabha, including Mr Jagmohan Gupta, Mr Vinay Adya, Mr Brij Mohan Ralhan, Mr Suresh Chopra and Mr Vishal Saroop Chopra, attended the function. Mr Kailash Kalra, a local industrialist, presided while Ms Anju compered the function. |
IGNOU offers BSc,
nautical science
Ludhiana, September 22 The programme includes a combination of marine subjects, practical application of the theory and “correct attitude”. According to Dr Umesh Chandra Pandey, IGNOU Regional Director for Punjab and Chandigarh, the programme will have six semesters. The students will be awarded a certificate of competency by the DGS and a degree in B.Sc (nautical science) from IGNOU, which would enable them to become an officer on a merchant ship. Dr Pandey said this programme had been developed by the School of Engineering and Technology of IGNOU in collaboration with the DGS. Admissions to the programme, to be offered twice a year, would be through an entrance test. |
