513 treated at medical camp

A medical camp on the youth celebrations of the holy Guru Granth Sahib was organised by the Punjab Health Systems Corporation, Fatehgarh Sahib, with association of the Manav Bhilai Manch, Amloh, and Gram Panchayat at Bhatton village, 4 km from here, on Wednesday.

Mr Sadhu Singh Dharamsot, Parliamentary Secretary (Home & PWD) was the chief guest, Mr S.K. Ahluwalia, Deputy Commissioner was the guest of honour. The inauguration function was presided over by Dr Inderjit Kaur Walia, Chief Medical Officer.

Mr Ahluwalia announced to make the payment of all medicines provided in the camp out of Red Cross fund.

Mr Som Nath Latava, President, Mr Manohar Lal Verma, Secretary, and Mr Ram Lavhya Puri, Finance Secretary of the Manav Bhilai Manch, Mr Pakhar Singh Salana, Chairman, Zila Parishad, Mr Sukhwinder Singh S.E., PSEB Khanna, Mr Bhagwan Singh Majri, Mr Pratap Singh Baini, Mr Baljinder Singh Sarpanch, Mr Pargat Singh Anian, and Mr Joginder Singh Naraingarh also spoke on the occasion.

Eye donation campaign kicks off

Ludhiana, September 2
In the wake of the ongoing “World Eye Donation Fortnight”, Christian Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) here has launched a special eye donation campaign, which will continue till September 8. The fortnight is being observed to commemorate the donation of eyes by late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.

Eye specialists at the CMCH said the corneal diseases rated as one of the prime factors for blindness all over the world.

According to a CMCH spokesperson, those willing to donate eyes can register their names at Eye OPD in the CMCH from 8 am to 5 pm.

Stress on nutritional diet for women, children

‘Pregnant women, lactating mothers and children up to the age of 6 years, particularly those from weaker sections of society, ought to be educated on the need for a nutritious diet for a healthy growth,’ said the Civil Surgeon, Dr S.N. Tiwari, while addressing a meeting of health workers here today to mark the begining of ‘National Nutrition Week’ from September 1 to 8.

Earlier, speaking at a meeting of the advisory committee on the PNDT Act, Dr Tiwari said that with the registration of three new ultra-sound centres in the district, the total number had gone up to 219.

BVM, Shemrock win kho-kho matches

Hosts Bhartiya Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School, Kitchlu Nagar in the girls’ section and Shemrock Public School in the boys’ section began their campaign with emphatic victories in the Ludhiana Sahodhya Schools Complex Kho-Kho Tournament here today. BVM schoolgirls overwhelmed SKS School, Neelon, 19-0 and Shemrock Public School boys drubbed SKS School, Neelon, 12-3.

Earlier Mr Mitter Sen, president, the BVM Trust, inaugurated the three-day tournament in which 11 teams in the boys section and 13 teams in the girls section were taking part.

First day’s results: (Boys)- Shemrock Public School beat USPC School by 6 points and one turn (7-2); Satluj Public School beat Maharaja Ranjit Singh Public School, Phillaur by 4 points ( 11-7); Bhartiya Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School beat Spring Dale School by 5 points ( 10-5); Bhartiya Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School got walk over BCM Arya Model Senior Secondary School; Guru Nanak Public School, Mullanpur, beat Alpine International Public School by 3 points (12-9) and Shemrock Public School beat SKS School, Neelon, by 9 points (12-3).

Girls- Satluj Public School beat Alpine International Public School by 8 points (11-3); Shemrock Public School beat Maharaja Ranjit Singh Public School, Phillaur, by 4 points (4-0); Guru Nanak Public School, Sarabha Nagar, beat Spring Dale Public School by 3 points ( 14-11) and Bhartiya Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School beat SKS School, Neelon, by 19 points (19-0).

Bhagat Singh House in soccer final

Bhagat Singh House prevailed over Bhai Veer Singh House by a solitary goal to secure a berth in the final of the Inter-House Football Tournament for class IX being played at the Guru Nanak Public School, Sarabha Nagar here today. The all-important goal was scored by Nitin Singh Walia midway through the first half.

In the final, scheduled to be played on September 3, Bhagat Singh House will take on Ranjeet Singh House.
