Kisan melas from Sept 10
Ludhiana, September 2 He said that the green revolution had an important role in increasing the agricultural produce but still we were facing many problems. In order to meet these challenges, we should make the optimum use of the natural water resources and manures. The farmers should use the recommended insecticides and fungicides instead of using non-recommended items. Dr S.S. Gill, Additional Director of Extension Education, send that the series of kisan melas would begin from September 10. The first mela will be held on
September 10 at the Regional Centre, Ballowal Saunkhri (near Balachaur), on September 28 at Regional Research Centre, Bathinda and on September 30 at the Regional Research Centre, Gurdaspur. The farmers would purchase seeds of new developed varieties and literature related to agriculture at these fairs. |

Ludhiana, September 2 The students can write in English, Hindi, or Punjabi and the last date for the submission of the essay is September 10. For school children, a declamation contest will be held on September 27 and 28 at Punjabi Bhavan. The District Education Officer (S) has issued instructions to schools to participate in the contest. The winners will be given prizes at a commemoration function on September 28. Intra-college quiz:
Sri Aurobindo College of Commerce and Management organised an first intra-college quiz which was anchored by Bharat Gaurav Kapoor. The quiz covered business, management, current affairs and Indian economy. Seven teams of two students each participated. Amanjot Singh and Aditya Khurana were the winners while Dipesh Jain Nidhi Bhuchar and Ravijot Singh, Nakul Sharma were the first and second runners-up, respectively.
Parkash Utsav: A declamation contest was held on the occasion. Students of classes VI to VIII took part in the contest and spoke about Adi Granth and its relevance in life. Jaspreet Kaur was adjudged first, Samandeep Kaur and Deep Ranjan Kaur were second and Kiran Navpreet Kaur third.
Students were felicitated with mementoes and prizes.
Competitions: Students from various schools participated. The Principal of Ramgarhia Girls Senior Secondary School, Mrs Kamaljeet Kaur, distributed the prizes. The results are: Geet lokgeet: Aman and Suresh of Anand Insher Singh Punjab School, Ahmedgarh(1) Gulbir Singh of Raja Jagdev School, Jagaron (2) and Ravleen Kaur of Shri Guru Harkrishan Punjab School, Doraha (3); Shabad gayan: Inderpreet Kaur and party of Shri Guru Harkrishan Public Senior Secondary, Doraha (1), Jyoti Arora and party of R.S. Model Senior Secondary School Shastri Nagar (2) and Rohit and party of Guru Nanak Public Model Senior Secondary Doraha (3) Janamashtmi: Mother’s Touch Kindergarten celebrated “grandparents’ day” and Janamashtami today. The school lawns were decorated with colourful dupattas, flutes and “matkas”. A mandir had been set up on one side of the stage and statues depicting grandparents were put on the other side.
Grandparents had come to applaud their little Krishnas and Radhas.
The children also recited Gayatri Mantra and sang songs and danced.
Vanamahotsava: PTA members: A PTA meeting was held at Government College for Women here today to elect new members. Five members walked out in a huff, alleging that there was no transparency in the working of the PTA. Without taking the consent of the PTA, the college had increased the fee of the PTA from Rs 200 to Rs 500, they said. Finally, the new members were announced. They are: president — Ms Kusum Ahuja; senior vice-president — Ms Gurpreet Kaur Bawa; secretary — Dr Prithipal Singh Sohi; treasurer — Mr Sikander Singh Gill; joint secretary — Ms Paramlit Kaur; vice-president — Ms Narinder Kaur Sekhon; bursar — Ms Balbir Bajaj; teacher members — Dr Sushma Gupta and Ms Varinder Jeet; and parents executive members — Mr Rajan Sharma, Mr Kiranjit and Mr S.K. Kalra. |
12 foreign students take admission
to PAU
Ludhiana, September 2 Dr M. S. Tiwana, Dean, College of Agriculture, said admissions to various programmes in the College of Agriculture started in August. He said seven foreign students were studying in the master’s programme of the college. Two students from Sri Lanka and one from Guyana had been admitted to the master’s programme during the academic year 2004-05, he added. |
