344 examined at medical camp

Dayanand Medical College and Hospital organised a free medical camp at Maharaja Lal Ji Das Bhuriwale Memorial Charitable Hospital in Mallewal. As many as 344 persons were examined and medicines given free of cost.

Meanwhile, on the eve of the 400th Parkash Utsav of Sri Guru Granth Sahib, a march — “Awareness of drug abuses” — was organised by Dr B.N. Kotnis Acupuncture Hospital today.

The march was flagged off by Mr S.K. Sharma, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation. About 300 students of schools and colleges took part in the march. Shree Durga Mata Charitable Hospital organised a free medical camp. Around 375 patients were examined at the camp.

Nav Bharti School win cricket title

In the low-scoring final of the Sanjeev Kaushik Memorial Cricket Tournament organised by the Sarpanch Bachan Singh Cricket Academy at its ground in Baloke village, near here, today, Ashish gave a good account of himself (3 for 13 and 11 runs) to steer Nav Bharti Public School to register 47-run victory over Saraswati Model School.

Nav Bharti Public School won the toss and elected to bat. In their quota of 20 overs, Nav Bharti School made 94 runs for the loss of 9 wickets. Ashish and Puneet contributed 11 and 7 runs, respectively. For Sarswati Model School, Jatinder was the pick of bowlers, taking three wickets for 14 runs while Neeraj and Karan scalped one wicket each.

In reply, Saraswati Model School were bundled out for a meagre total of 47 runs in just 12 overs. Amit and Yogesh scored 7 and 9 runs respectively. Karan and Ashish took four wickets for 5 runs and three for 13 runs, respectively.

Capt S.S. Jamwal was the chief guest at the prize distribution function. Happy Singh of Nav Bharti Public School and Neeraj of Sarswati Model School were declared the best bowler and best batsman, respectively, while Nirmal Sharma of Nav Bharti Model School was named the player of the tournament. Karan Kumar of Sarswati School was adjudged the best wicketkeeper while Romesh Sharma of Nav Bharti School won the best fielder prize.

Anuradha Sharma, national woman cricketer was honoured by the tournament committee on the occasion. She had been awarded with the most talented player of the North Zone by the Delhi State Women Cricket Association.

KVM lads win cricket titles

Cricketers of the local Kundan Vidya Mandir School, Civil Lines, brought laurels to their school, winning the u-14 and u-16 titles in the Inter-Zonal Schools Cricket Tournament here today.

In the final (u-14) played at BCM Arya Model Senior Secondary School, Shastri Nagar, batting first, Kundan Vidya Mandir School, representing PAU Zone scored 150 runs for the loss of six wickets.

BCM School lads, who represented Gill Zone, made 148 for 6 in the allotted 20 overs and fell short of the target by just three runs.

In the u-16 category, PAU Zone, with a larger number of players from Kundan Vidya Mandir School, beat Jagraon Zone by 30 runs to emerge champions. In the final, played at the Government High School ground, Gill, PAU Zone were all out for 141 runs in 20 overs. Bharat (43), Sushyant Kohli (24) and Atul Kohli (27) were the main scorers.

Needing 142 runs for victory, Jagraon Zone could muster 110 runs in 19 overs. Jagmeet and Jaspal contributed 35 and 16 runs, respectively. For the winners, the successful bowlers were Bharat (3 for 32), Karan Bawa ( 2 for 25) and Jasdeep (1 for 20).
