Plant docs postpone rally

Ludhiana, June 22
The Plant Doctors’ Service Association has decided to postpone its protest rally to be held on June 24 in front of the office of the Director, Agriculture, at Chandigarh.

According to Dr Rajinder Pal Singh Aulakh, state president of the outfit, said they had been forced to adopt the agitational approach after their long pending demands had not been met. Since now the authorities had accepted some demands and also given a firm assurance on the redressal of the remaining ones, they have decided to postpone the rally.

Senior leaders, Dr Satnam Singh and Dr Chaman Lal, pointed out that they held discussions with Director, Agriculture, Dr Ajmer Singh, who had agreed that their demands, including staying of recovery of arrears, assured promotions after 8 - 16 years of service, payment of salary of newly recruited agriculture officers from the day of joining, would be accepted. — TNS

GNIMT students excel in BCA exams

Ludhiana, June 22
The students of the Guru Nanak Institute of Management and technology (GNIMT) have achieved excellent results in BCA I and III semester examinations, conducted by Punjab Technical University (PTU) in December, 2003.

The students of the institute have bagged three and one positions in BCA I and III examinations, respectively, among the top 10 positions, according to the merit list released by the PTU.

In BCA I semester, Munisha Arora claimed the sixth position with 85.7 per cent marks, followed by Preet Chawla and Sumeet Kalra, both bagging the seventh position with 85.4 per cent marks.

In BCA III semester, Charanpreet Kaur bagged the sixth position with 83 per cent marks. Dr A.S. Bansal, Director, GNIMT, has appreciated the excellent performance of the students.

Cooking course: A 20-day cooking course concluded at the Param Institute of Fashion Designing in Ranjit Nagar here on Monday in which girls were trained for preparation of vegetable dishes, snacks, south Indian dishes, cakes, bakes and Kashmiri cuisine.

As many as 55 girls attended the course. Ms Parminder Kaur, Principal of the institute, said the classes were held every year and the girls were trained to cook around 80 different recipes.

Painting exhibition organised

Ludhiana, June 22
A painting competition was organised yesterday by members of Gayatri Club for their children. The club president, Ms Surinder Dhiman, said that the children were divided in three age groups from 5 to 7, 8 to 10 and 10 to 12. A total of 38 students participated. In the first age group first three prizes were won by Madhur Seerat, Aashna and Deepak, respectively.

In second age group Simmerjot, Abhinav, and Himanshu were placed in first, second and third position. In the third category, Shisher Gupta and Radhika were awarded. The members also learnt how to make exotic mocktails . Ms Veenu Aggarwal, a cookery expert taught mocktails.
