Ludhiana, June 21
Jyoti Kendra Charitable Hospital in Kitchlu Nagar here today started Lala Kidar Nath Sukh Devi Jain Laser Treatment Centre in the Department of Ophthalmology with support by industrialist Mr Suraj Bhan Jain. The new facility was inaugurated today by Mr K.K. Goyal.
According to Mr Hitendra Jain, secretary of the managing society, the hospital had installed iris green double frequency 532nm laser with LIO and slit lamp delivery systems. With the added equipment, the institution could now provide treatment for holes in retina and bleeding in retina caused due to diabetes, hypertension or trauma (diabetic retinopathy, hypertensive retinopathy, peripheral retinal holes and retinal degeneration etc).
Dr Anurag Bansal, consultant ophthalmologist at the hospital, said that the incidence of diabetes and hypertension was quite common in patients these days, often resulting in degeneration in retina. This degeneration was generally not diagnosed in the economically-deprived strata of the society and even where diagnosed, it remained untreated due to the high cost of treatment.
