Tribune News Service

Ludhiana, June 5
With most of the reputed schools here having fixed the cut-off percentage at 75, the students who have not been able to cross this mark are in a fix. The local politicians, bureaucrats and police officers are being approached by residents for admission of their wards.

The top schools of the city, including Sacred Heart School, DAV School, KVM school and BCM school are learnt to have fixed their cut-off percentage quite high. The managements of the schools have been maintaining that they have no vacancies. Since the schools give preference to their own students, it is difficult for the outsiders to get admission in the desired institution.

Mr Rajeev Sharma, a local businessman, said he had visited five schools and from everywhere he had to return disappointed despite the fact that his son had secured 70 per cent marks. The schools did not even accept this admission form. Everywhere Mr Sharma was told that he should approach them after some time.

The school managements claim to have evolved a transparent system of admission. Lala Lajpat Rai, the Chairman of the managing committee of KVM School, said the school had made the system of admissions rational and transparent. He admitted that many students would not be able to get admission.

While the top schools remain inaccessible, the lesser known schools are having a good time. They are also learnt to have increased their fees. “Even those schools which were not in demand earlier have started dictating terms to parents”, and Mr Baljit Singh, another angry parent. He sought the intervention of the district administration in the matter.
