Srinagar, June 5
Ten persons, including two ruling PDP workers, three militants and an Army jawan, have been killed in separate incidents in Jammu and Kashmir since last night, official sources said today.
In the second attack on PDP workers in Pahalgam area within four days, militants shot dead two PDP workers — Abdul Rehma Mir and Sonaullah Paddar — after dragging them out of their houses at Sallar in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district last night, they said. On Wednesday, ultras had shot dead party activist Ghulam Mohiuddin Nigroo in Kullar village.
In nearby Siligam-Ashmuqam, militants shot at and injured a Congress activist Bashir Ahmad Khan, inside his shop early today, the sources said.
In another incident, militants shot dead the mother and the wife of SPO Ghulam Hassan inside their house in Mawar village of Kupwara district last night, they said. Hassan was not in the house at the time of the attack.
Lance Naik Raj Kumar was killed and Sepoy Satvir Singh injured when militants opened fire on a patrol party of Rashtriya Rifles at Hayan-Palpora on the outskirts of
Srinagar early today, they said. troops fired back but the militants fled the scene.
Security forces shot dead a militant during an encounter last night in Soura area of downtown Srinagar, they said. The slain militant has been identified as Mohammad Iqbal Wani, alias Bilal Ansari, a resident of Doda in Jammu region of the state.
He was a close associate and bodyguard of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Shakeel Ansari, who was killed last month, the sources said.
Security forces shot dead two Lashker-e-Toiba militants in Mandi area of Poonch district last night, the sources said. The slain militants have been identified as Abu Treen and Abu Haksa of Pakistan. Security forces killed a militant during an ambush in Baltharen forest, 3 km inside the Line of Control at Tangdhar area of Kupwara district early today, they said.
A civilian, Mohammad Shafi Teli, was killed when security forces opened fire in retaliation to a grenade attack by militants on their post at Neelu in Kulgama area of Anantnag district last night. Teli was working in his field when a stray bullet hit him, killing him on the spot, the sources said, adding that there was no casualty in the grenade attack. However, residents accused security personnel of killing Teli.
Security forces apprehended a Hizbul Mujahideen militant Abdul Rashid Mir from Bagroo in Badgam district of central Kashmir and recovered some arms and ammunition from him, the sources added.
