Govt turns heat on schools violating land lease pact
New Delhi, May 30
The Government of NCT of Delhi has asked the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and the Land and Development Officer to take action against 142 schools that have been allotted land at concessional rates and are found to be not following land lease condition regarding grant of freeships to children belonging to weaker sections of society.

Hub of global standards coming up in Noida
Noida, May 30
The Noida Authority has initiated action to develop a commercial plaza of international standards. It will be developed on 99 hectares of land near Noida Stadium, encompassing Sectors-25A and 32. Apart from the Administrative Bhavan of the Noida Authority, a conference hall, bigger than even New Delhi’s Vigyan Bhavan, is proposed to be built here.

Adieu to Mr Tobacco
New Delhi, May 30
Mr. Tobacco, who represents the smoking generation which succumbed to oral cancer a few days ago, was cremated here today. Prior to his cremation at the Lodhi Road crematorium, his mortal remains were carried around the city and pamphlets distributed, disseminating information about the ill effects of smoking, which caused his death.

Family of three perish in hit-and-run
New Delhi, May 30
Three members of a family were killed when a scooter on which they were riding was hit by an unidentified vehicle last night on the Outer Ring road near Majnu Ka Tila. According to the police, the victims — Vimal Vadhwa (40), his wife Seema (38) and son Abhay (6) — were rushed to the Trauma Centre but declared brought dead.

Man gets life term for murder

The Sonepat Additional Sessions Judge, Mr J. S. Jangra, yesterday convicted Rajbir, a former employee of the Indian Army and a resident of Issapur Kheri village under Section 302 IPC and sentenced him to life imprisonment with a fine of Rs 5,000.
