Increase in diarrhoea cases in Ghaziabad

Ghaziabad, May 26
There has been noticeable increase in the number of diarrhoea cases in the district. Reportedly, hospitals are not in a position to handle the large number of diarrhoea cases.

Over 150 patients were admitted to district hospital between From 1 May to 22 May. In many hospitals two patients are occupying one bed.

Mango fruit seem to be the main cause of the influx of diarrhoea cases in the hospitals. Every third patients in MMG district hospital is suffering from loose motions and vomiting.

The number of patients swelled to 171 on May 23. Quite a few patients were turned back for want of proper facilities in the hospital.

Fifteen children suffering from diarrhoea were been admitted yesterday. Eight kids had to be discharged before they had fully recovered. According to doctors at the district hospital, number of diarrhoea patients was bound to increase due to excessive summer heat. Lack of pure drinking water and shortage of wholesome eatables were the main cause of this epidemic. According to Dr M. K. Singhvi, the number of people suffering from diarrhoea has increased in last 24 hours.

People should take special precaution while eating. One should avoid milk sweets and cold drinks. Cut fruits and vegetable being sold in the open should be strictly avoided, he said. People should eat fresh hot food and drink clean and pure water. If you are not sure that drinking water is safe, boil it before consumption, the doctor advised. Put one chlorine tablet in 20-litre water before drinking it, he added. In many cases, the patients have alleged negligence on the part of the hospital staff towards diarrhoea patients.

Yogesh Sachdeva bowls FCI to victory

Deadly off-spin bowling by Yogesh Sachdeva (4 for 33) helped Food Corporation of India (FCI) trounce Air Sahara by five wickets in the Lala Raghubir Singh Hot Weather Cricket Tournament on the Modern School ground.

Yogesh Sachdeva was named the Reebok man of the match. FCI will take on ONGC in the quarter-final on Thursday.

Scores: Air Sahara: 138 all out in 31 overs (Ansul Lamba 46, Kapil Mehta 16, Yogesh Sachdeva 4 for 33, Mannu Kumar 2 for 17, Sonu Vaid 3 for 19). FCI: 141 for 5: Pankaj Thakur 59 n o, Dharmender Phagana 33 n o, Akash Malhotra 21, Dinesh Yadav 2 for 35, Ajit Chandela 2 for 25).

Ravindra School in semis

Fierce bowling spells by Anuj Jain (3 for 28) and Rahul (3 for 18) enabled Ravindra Public School, Pitampura defeat Hansraj School, Punjabi Bagh by 16 runs and entered the semi-final of the Achrekar Cup Under-17 Cricket Tournament at the DDA Complex, Paschim Vihar.

Scores: Ravindra School: 172 for 8 in 30 overs (Anuj Jain 32, Neeraj Dheer 36, Neeraj Bansal 3 for 29, Puneet Anand 3 for 32). Hansraj School: 156 for 9 in 30 overs (Manu Sharma 75, Anuj Jain 3 for 28, Rahul 3 for 18).

Sahil Kumar shines

An all-round display by Sahil Kumar (3 for 24, 38) helped Bharat Cricket Academy defeat Delhi Armed Police by three wickets and entered the quarter-final of the Sharma Sports Under-19 Cricket Tournament on the Apex School ground.

Sahil received the man of the match award.

Dhruv, Renuka lift under-18 tennis titles

Dhruv Gupta defeated Tushar Jagota 6-4, 6-4 to lift the under-18 boys singles title while Renuka Keshwani beat Khayati Thakur 6-4, 6-3 in the girls final of the AITA Talent Series Tennis Tournament at the Roshanara Club court.

In the under-14 final, Prateek Bhambri beat Shantanu Rajput 7-5, 6-3. In the under-14 girls singles, Khayati Thakur beat Rishika Sunkara 6-1, 6-2.

Doubles finals: Under-18 boys: Tushar Jagota and Naren Prakash b Vijay Siwach and Nikunj Siwach 6-3, 7-6 (7-3). Under-14 boys: Vedant Kapoor and Ritwik Sunkara b Prateek Patel and Nishkam Paul 5-7, 6-1, 6-1.

Delhi Audit struggle to win in DSA League

Defending champions Delhi Audit struggled to beat Food Corporation of India by a lone goal in a Group A match of the Senior Division DSA Institutional League Football Championship at the Ambedkar Stadium on Wednesday. Rishi Kapoor scored the lone goal.

All India Institute of Medical Sciences scored their third win on trot when they defeated Indian Airlines 2-0. Manoj Singh Gosain and Arun Kerketta scored the goals.

Jind district bags basketball title

Sonepat, May 26
The Jind district has bagged the Haryana state Junior Basketball Championship title in both boys and girls section that concluded last evening at Sir Chhotu Ram Modern Senior Secondary School, Ratangarh. Sonepat and Gurgaon got the third positions in boys and girls sections respectively.

In the finals, Jind trounced Rohtak by 53-28 points and Sports School, Nidani Girls, registered a convincing win over Jind Girls by 32-19. For third places, Sonepat boys outplayed Fatehaba by 49-28 and Gurgaon girls displayed their superiority over Hissar girls winning by 27-12.

The teams from Jind, Rohtak, Bhiwani, Kaithal, Sports School Rai, Karnal, Panipat, Yamunanagar, Ambala, Fatehabad, Hisar, Faridabad, Panchkula, Gurgaon, Sonepat, Sirsa, Karnal and sports school, Nidani participated in the championship.

A dashing century, off 37 balls with 20 boundaries and one six, by Gaurav Mathur and an all-round display by Narender Chauhan (56 n o, 5 catches) helped Cambridge Foundation defeat Golden Cricket Club by 152 runs in a league match of the Cambridge Foundation Under-19 Summer League Cricket Tournament on the Cambridge ground at Rajouri Garden.

Scores: Cambridge Foundation: 271 for 8 in 30 overs (Gaurav Mathur 100, Gitesh Khanna 81, Narender Chauhan 56 n o, 8x4, Divesh Kumar 3 for 36, Yash Kumar 3 for 37).

Golden Club: 119 all out in 21.5 overs (Deepak Kumar 33, Harman Gill 5 for 24, Ankur Gupta 3 for 34, Narender Chouhan 2 for 24).

Hardeep Singh slams ton

Hardeep Singh slammed 102, studded with ten fours and four sixes, and a stylish 80, with seven fours and three sixes by Rishi Singla, helped E-Fund beat IOC, Servo by 126 runs and entered the final of the Century Cup Cricket Tournament at the Teri Oval. Hardeep was named the man of the match.
