Nature cure camp for jail inmates

Ludhiana, May 7
A team of doctors comprising Dr Naveen Sabharwal and Dr Ranjit Sandhu conducted the last phase of a nature cure camp organised by Jagdambe Charitable Hospital and Nursing Home at Central Jail on the Tajpur road here yesterday.

During interaction with more than 300 inmates of the jail, the doctors provided tips on the treatment of common ailments like asthma, diabetes, nervous tension and migraine with the help of natural elements like water, sand, heat and vibrations. The jail inmates were also told about benefits of physical exercise and yoga on human body.

The participating doctors also provided disease-specific nature cure for other diseases afflicting the inmates. The hospital plans such nature cure camps in educational institutions, private and public sector undertakings, banks and other sectors.

Protest against fielding of overage players

Ludhiana joined Jalandhar and minor districts, Zone B, in lodging a protest against Amritsar for fielding overage players in the ongoing Punjab State Inter-District Cricket Tournament (u-17) for the M.L. Markan Trophy being organised by the Punjab Cricket Association.

According to Mr Vinod Chitkara, general secretary, Ludhiana District Cricket Association, at the time of the start of the match between Ludhiana and Amritsar yesterday at the Satish Chander Dhawan Government College for Boys ground, the former drew the attention of the umpires towards the visitors’ decision of fielding as many as five overage players. “We are also going to complain in this regard to the PCA,” Mr Chitkara informed.

Resuming at the overnight score of 12 for no loss, Amritsar, went on to surpass the hosts’ total of 379.

The visitors achieved the target in the penultimate over of the match after losing just five wickets. The main architects of their victory were Saransh and Vipan who contributed 144 and 111 runs, respectively.

Brief scores: Ludhiana — 379 for 7 in 90 overs

Amritsar — 380 for 5 in 88.2 overs ( Saransh 144, Vipan 111, Sumit 40, Rahul 24 n.o, Nagesh 29 n.o; Gagandeep Dhand 4 for 98)

Cricket tourney postponed

Ludhiana, May 7
The inaugural edition of the instant cricket trophy tournament to be organised by the College of Agriculture Cricket Club, PAU, here at the Punjab Agricultural University ground has been postponed. Dr Manjit Singh Mahal, president of the organising club, said the decision to postpone the tournament was taken following Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s visit to the city tomorrow.

The cricket ground and its surrounding playfields have been occupied by the security personnel in this regard. The tournament would now be held from May 15, Dr Mahal added.
