Life imprisonment in
murder case Ludhiana, April 28 Delivering the verdict, Mr Baldev Singh, Sessions Judge, held
that the prosecution has proved the guilt of the accused beyond any
reasonable shadow of doubt. So he was not entitled for any leniency as
prayed for. A fine of Rs 10,000 was also imposed upon the
accused. ‘’The evidence on the file proves that the accused was under
the influence of liquor. He called Karam Singh as ‘’Bhayya’’ and Karam
Singh retorted that he was not ‘’Bhayya’’ but ‘’Punjabi’’. Upon which,
there was a scuffle between them and the accused caused injuries with a
knife, which led to the death of Karam Singh,” remarked the judge while
holding the accused guilty. An F.I.R was lodged at Sahnewal police
station on March 29, 2000, following the statement of Pritam Singh,
brother of the deceased. The complainant had stated to the police that
his brother (deceased) was running an auto-electrician’s shop at Ropar.
He used to come back daily but on March 28 he did not come back at
home. The next day, Gurmit Singh, “Sarpanch, informed him that his
brother was lying in an injured condition in the wheat crop field near
the pulli of Lakhowal village. I immediately went there and found my
brother lying in an unconscious condition. He was then taken to CMC
hospital, where he died,” added the complainant. Thereafter, one person
Gurdeep Singh recorded his statement with the police. He said that the
accused, who was a tractor driver at Sangha farm near Gaddowal village,
came to him in an enebriated condition, when he was present in the
Kohara chowk taxi stand. He wanted to hire my taxi but I refused.
Thereafter, one Jasbir Singh hired his taxi. When they were going,
they saw accused was beating Karam Singh. They tried to intervene but
the accused threatened them to face dire consequences. So they left the
place. On the next day it came to their knowledge that Karam Singh was
murdered. This witness also deposed in the court. The accused also made
a confession before the president of the Milk Product Society, Barwala,
Mr Nirmal Singh, as per prosecution. However, the accused pleaded not
guilty and claimed false implication. But finding convincing evidence
against him, the Judge sentenced him. |
