Peninsula to hold tennis circuit

New Delhi, April 22
The Peninsula Tennis Academy, in a bid to give a big thrust to junior tennis in the Capital, will hold a five-leg tournament followed by a Masters in different corners of Delhi.

Peninsula Academy Managing director Bobby Singh said the first leg will be held at IIT, Haus Khas from April 24 to May 1, the second leg at Khaitan Public School, Noida from May 29 to June 5, the third leg at Gymkhana Club, Faridabad from July 10 to 17, the fourth leg at City Club, DLF Phase IV, Gurgaon from September 18 to 25 and the fifth leg from October 30 to November 6 at the Punjabi Bagh Club.

Mr Bobby Singh said the Masters Tournament will be played at the CSKM Educational Complex, Satari, New Delhi from December 4 to 11. He said the winner of the boys under-14 title will receive prizes worth Rs 20,000 while the runner-up will take home prizes costing Rs 10,000.

Mr Singh informed that the Peninsula Academy was the first to launch the School Programme in 1994, in collaboration with the CSKM Public School, and now this programme is being emulated throughout the country.

He said the Peninsula Academy has a network of 27 centres, and former Davis Cuppers like Ramanathan Krishnan, Ramesh Krishnan and Jaideep Mukherjea have been involved with the programmes of the academy. He said well-known foreign coaches like Louie Cap, Dan Santorum and Jonathan Stubbs have also been coming to India to coach coches at the invitation of the Peninsula Academy.

Mr Bobby Singh said the Peninsula Cup will be an annual feature.

Parida and Gagandeep star for Indian Airlines

New Delhi, April 22
A stylish unbeaten 72 by R. R. Parida and deadly bowling by Gagandeep Singh (3 for 27) and Rajat Bhatia (3 for 21) helped Indian Airlines defeat South Delhi Colts by 63 runs in the Om Nath Sood Memorial Cricket Tournament at the Sri Guru Gobind Singh College of Commerce ground, Pitampura. R. R. Parida was presented the Pepsi man of the match award.

Scores: Indian Airlines: 177 (Parida 72 n o, Manvinder Bisla 49, Amanjeet 2 for 22. South Delhi Colts: 113 in 33.2 overs. Friday's fixture: FCI vs Delhi Police.

Davinder Singh Tourney

The 13th Davinder Singh Memorial Cricket Tournament for the Tara Devi Trophy will be held from April 24 to May 4. Fourteen teams will vie for the top honours. However, defending champions Sonnet Club have pulled out of the tournament due to non-availability of their players. Head of the Collage Sports Management Group Sumit will inaugurate the tournament.

Inborn annex Ranjit Singh title

A delightful half century by Delhi Ranji Trophy player Kuldeep Rawat (55, 6x4, 1x6) and deadly bowling by Sonu Vaid (3 for 16) and Ajit Ranjan (3 for 22) helped Inborn Club defeat Lal Bahadur Shastri Coaching Centre by four wickets in the final of the third Maharaja Ranjit Singhji Trophy Cricket Tournament at the Central Secretariat ground.

Rajan Gupta of Shastri Club was named the best batsman while Arun Choudhary of Inborn was adjudged the best bowler. Ratan Rawat of Inborn got the best all-rounder award.

Guru Harkrishan Public School (Vasant Vihar) principal Dr S. S. Minhas and Mr Dalvinder Singh presented the prizes.

Scores: Lal Bahadur Shastri Club: 164 all out in 40 overs (Rajan Gupta 52, Pradeep Chawla 31, Sonu Vaid 3 for 26, Ajit Ranjan 3 for 22). Inborn Club: 165 for 6 in 36 overs (Kuldeep Rawat 55, Ratan Rawat 37, Sawej Khan 30 n o, Amit Mishra 3 for 21, Dalip TT 2 for 28).

Moti Lal Nehru School win

New Delhi, April 22
A dashing knock by Sachin Sihag (63, 68b, 74, 2x6) and all-round performance by Sachin Gahlot (30, 4 for 24) helped Moti Lal Nehru Sports School defeat Don Bosco School by 48 runs in a league match of the second SG Turf Youth Cup Under-15 Cricket Tournament at the Modern School ground.

Sachin Gahlot was named the SG Man of the Match while Sachin Sihag was adjudged the best batsman. Nikhil Dhawan got the best bowler award.

Scores: Moti Lal Nehru: 174 all out in 38.4 overs (Sachin Sihag 63, Sachin Gahlot 30, Nikhil Dhawan 3 for 26, Kunal Aggarwal 2 for 9). Don Bosco School: 126 all out in 30.2 overs (Naman Khanna 30, Mukul Aggarwal 26, Sachin Gahlot 4 for 24, Pankaj Kapoor 3 for 25).

Vijay Yadav Academy win U-13 cricket

Faridabad: The local Vijay Yadav Academy comfortably won their match against Modern School, Vasant Kunj, Delhi in the under-13 match played here yesterday. A fine knock of 60 runs not out by Sachin Goel and superb bowling by Samir Bhatnagar (3 for 6) and Rahul Tewatia (3 for 15) help the hosts to outplay the visiting team. Modern School made 105 runs in the allotted 35 overs and lost all the wicket, the Vijay Yadav Academy achieved the target by losing only one wicket. TNS
