Water is a necessity for life. We cannot live without water. The body has stores of fats and carbohydrates which can be drawn on if food is short, and a person can survive for remarkable long periods without eating. But the body has no method of storing water, and without it death occurs in about three days since water is absolutely vital for all major bodily functions. Water is the most abundant substance in the human body, making up one half to two thirds of the body weight. Roughly three quarters of the brain and muscles are made up of water. Even bone is 20 per cent water. Water is needed for lubricating the joints to keep them moving freely. For normal metabolism, a human body releases 500 ml of water in the form of urine everyday. Through breathing and sweating, the body releases other 500 or 800 ml of water. When we feel thirsty, the body is signalling its need for water. The volume of water we then drink in order to satisfy the body’s need is dependent on how much the body has lost. Once the food is digested and assimilated, the remaining wastes will be removed in the form of sweat, breathing and urine or in solid waste. When the body is infected with sickness, the water content will work as transportation agent for nutritional supply and metabolism of toxic waste, thus it helps to fight sickness for a speedy recovery. On the other hand, the active ingredient in cola is phosphoric acid. Its PH is 2.8. It will dissolve a nail in about four days. The citric acid in cola removes stains from vitreous china. To clean a toilet: pour a can of cola into the toilet bowl and left it for one hour, then flush clean. To remove grease from clothes: empty a can into a load of greasy clothes, add detergent, and run through a regular cycle. It will help lessen grease stains. Now the question is, would you like a glass of water or cola. To avoid physical and mental problems drink more boiled water with lime juice. Drink 10 or 15 glasses of clean water in routine because water cures constipation, headaches, joint and back pain, anxiety and depression, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, fatigue and insomnia, allergies, asthma, arthritic pain and colon cancer. — Dr Anil Dheer |
