Land possession given to MC
Tribune News Service

Mohali, April 1
The Punjab Urban Planning and Development Authority (PUDA) today gave the possession of two acres of land in Phase I Industrial Area here to the Municipal Council (MC) for the construction of a cattle pond.

Sources stated that the action was taken after the problem was highlighted by the newspapers this morning. The sources added that the Estate Officer had written to the MC offering to allot the land at the earliest and finally the possession of the land was handed over to MC officials in the evening.

The site plan, too, had been handed over to MC officials. The council had been demanding the land for a cattle pond from PUDA for the past three years but no final decision could be reached regarding the price of the land. While the council demanded to buy the land at a subsidised price, PUDA insisted on charging the market price of the land.

However, things came to a head when the Punjab and Haryana High Court asked the Director, Local Bodies, to solve the matter and report within six weeks ending April 15. The final price of the land was fixed at Rs 15 lakh per acre and the council has paid the 25 per cent of the total cost to PUDA. The council has also passed the proposal to spend over Rs 3 lakh for the construction of the cattle pond.
