Cosmetic surgery at CMCH made easy on purse
Our Correspondent

Ludhiana, March 18
Dr Emy Alexander, acting Head of the Department of Dermatology, Christian Medical College and Hospital (CMCH), has said people are getting more conscious of their physical appearances and get carried away with advertisements easily. “It is not that cosmetological treatments performed in parlours are not correct, but these require the expertise of a specialist. Most of those who conduct these treatments are ignorant of the underlying medical problems, leading to more complications. People are advised to take medicines and it leads to side-effects and irreversible damage”, she said.

The Department of Dermatology at the CMCH had decided to start cosmetology and minor dermato-surgical procedures like microdermabrasion “Powerpeel” for scarring due to pimples and chicken pox, cryotherapy for warts, premature ageing and punch grafting for localised resistant stable leucoderma, she said.

“People spend a lot of money on creams and treatments in parlours to get rid of these problems. The new facilities at the Department of Dermatology provide painless procedures requiring no admission. These will be performed by qualified dermatologists to yield results with minimal side-effects at an affordable cost. Patient discomfort would be minimal and they could resume normal activities immediately after these procedures,” she added.

Ludhiana, March 18
To educate women about health issues, the manufacturers of Ricela organised a health and fitness contest at a women’s club here yesterday.
There were three teams named Fitness, Health and Energy having three members each. The rounds of quiz involved questions relating to general health, heart and cooking oil.

The organisers stressed that major causes of premature deaths like cancer and heart attack could be avoided by selecting an intelligent life style and resorting to proper, scientific intake. Fat content should not be eliminated from diet as it was a concentrated source of energy, provided essential fatty acids carried fat soluble vitamins in to the body.

In the Health quiz,Ms Rita Thamman stood first while Ms Manju Jain and Ms Parveen Jindal stood second and third, respectively. In the Fitness contest, Ms Promila Berry got the first prize and Ms Urmil Sood and Ms Ravinder Grewal were declared second and third, respectively.
