I worship music, says Shaan Ludhiana, March 10 With the super-successful “Tanha Dil” followed by “Bhool Ja” and a plethora of film hits and the SA RE GA Ma Pa show on Zee, Shaan is a household name today. Shaan said songs telecast on channels depict girls and boys wearing revealing clothes, performing lewd movements. The problem is that everyone condemns obscenity that has creeped into our living rooms through media, yet every one wants to play safe and does not curb it. Shaan said he would be promoting his latest album “Aksar” in this whirlwind tour. Talking to the media, he said: “whether the audience would savour my Hindi songs, I am skeptical. I have sung a few Punjabi songs, too, and now that Punjabis like Punjabi music so I will make an attempt at singing a Bhangra medley to keep the interest of audience.” He said “Aksar” was his fourth album and has nine songs. He said: “I like to compose my own music as it requires more exactness if one is one’s own master. I am excited at the thought of meeting Mr Arvind Kaushal, Income Tax Commissioner, Ludhiana. He is, perhaps, the most musical of all IT Commissioners as he has already released one album and is going to release the second. I met him in Mumbai when he came for recording of his album”. Shaan said he likes experimenting. Though late in the day, Shaan has started formal training in music by noted classical music teacher Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan Sahib of Rampur. He said disarmingly: “It is better late than never. Actually, when I started singing I did not know whether I would adopt singing as a career. But I discovered that singing is a passion with me.” Shaan, a passionate cricket lover, would be going to Lahore to see the one-day match on March 24 and would be singing for both teams the next day. Shaan began his music career with his sister, Sagarika, at a young age. Shan’s career skyrocketed with his next album-Tanha Dil. ‘Tanha Dil’ took the Indi Pop genre to a new level and in many ways made it a respectable form of music. A collection of eight original songs, the album encompasses ranging moods and emotions and yet shares a common thread of passion and positivity. The title track of the album, “Tanha Dil”, stayed on MTV charts for a record number of weeks and went on to bag the MTV Asia Award in the “Favourite Indian Artiste-Pop category” in 2002. |

Shendye, production controller for Zee Antakshri, said the whole set, including cameras, lights and generators, had been brought from Mumbai. “More than Rs 25 lakh have been spent to bring the huge set here. For the recording of all these episodes, around Rs 1 crore would be spent by the channel. Keeping in mind, the feelings of the viewers, we have come here to share our experiences and emotions with Punjabis. The club was chosen after taking into account the marriage palaces, and farm houses”, he said. The recording of four episodes of “Sohni Punjab Dee” would be the main attraction in which 18 women with melodious voice from all over the state would participate. Mr Jignesh Shah, dance director from Mumbai, said it was nice to see the rich Punjabi talent. “To give the feel of Punjab, we’ll be taking local talented boys and girls for performing giddha and bhangra in the programme based on Punjabi theme,” he said. |
