3-day Health Mela at Nangloi begins

New Delhi, February 13
The ESI Corporation, New Delhi, is hosting a 3-day health check-up camp-cum-Health Mela in a sprawling park at Nangloi from today. The Health Mela was inaugurated by the Labour Minister, Mr Sahib Singh, in the presence of Director General, Health, Dr Ajay Dua, Medical Commissioner, Dr (Mrs) S Singh, Director (Medical) Delhi, Dr A K Duggal, and Medical Superintendent, ESI Hospital, Okhla, Dr I N Mohanty.

The mela was attended by a large number of people residing in western Delhi. The Mela has clinics in all disciplines, which provide a free health check-up.

Blood tests and ECG investigation facilities are also being provided. Drugs were today distributed to each person examined by the doctors of the ESI Corporation.

Besides, there were attractive stalls to disseminate information on family welfare, nutrition, HIV/AIDS, first aid, leprosy, Ayurveda as well as Yoga. A mobile dental unit was also arranged, where a large number of people had their teeth examined. Skits and nukkad natak were presented on family welfare and to promote donation of blood.

Doctors and staff of the ESI Corporation took special care to entertain the children of the locality by engaging them in various competitions like drawings, poem, recitation and quiz.

While inaugurating the Mela, the Labour Minister urged the people to drive the maximum benefit out of the Mela. He also lauded the sincere efforts made by doctors and staff of the corporation in arranging such melas every now and then in different parts of the city.

Aditya Medkekar to meet Kedar Tembe in final

Aditya Medkekar of Central Railway will take on Kedar Tembe of Western Railway in the men’s singles final of the 50th All-India Railway Tennis Championship at the Delhi Lawn Tennis Association deco-turf court on Saturday. In the semi-finals on Friday, Aditya defeated Nitin Kirtane of Western Railway 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 while Kedar Tembe accounted for Vinod Kumar Sewa of Eastern Railway 3-6, 6-1, 6-2.

Following are the other results: Veterans’ quarter-finals (best of 17 games): V Hanumantha Rao beat D Pratap Singh 9-2, Ram Kumar b S Mastan 9-6 and Pradhan b M R Anil Kumar 9-1.

Semi-finals: V Hanumantha Rao b Pradhan 9-3.

Veterans doubles: Sundram and Dasarath b Ranjini Sahai and Qurban Ali 9-4; Deepak Krishan and S Masthan b Pradhan and Shezad Shah 9-8.

Army Green draw with Zara

Army Green drew with Zara 6-6 while Thunderbolt/Jodhpur defeated Black Dog 9-4 in the Jiwaji Rao Scindia Gold Cup Polo Tournament at the Jaipur Polo ground. In the semi-finals on Saturday, Army Green will take on Thunderbolt/Jodhpur at 2.30 p m while Royal Kashmir will clash against Zara in the second semi-final at 3.30 pm.

RVC defeated Chanakyapuri 6-1 in the Additional DG RVS Cup (two-goals) at the Army Equestrian Centre Polo ground.

Pushpinder Singh (3), Pawandeep Singh Kohli (2) and Vijender Singh were the scorers for the winners. Jagat Singh scored the lone goal for the losers. Lancers will meet PBG in the RVC Cup at the Army ground at 10 am.

Pathways celebrate annual day

Pathways World School today celebrated its first annual sports day. Former Indian cricketer Maninder Singh was the chief guest. Akash Chopra and squash player Mekhla Subedar were also present.

Principal of the school Lalage Prabhu said “we encourage our students to explore their talent and I am sure that the annual sports day will surely take their spirits to a new high”.

Jag Pravesh Chandra Cricket

The third Jagpravesh Chandra Cricket Tournament between the Speaker XI and the Journalists XI will be held on Saturday in the memory of former Chief Executive Councillor Jagpravesh Chandra. The

match will be played at the National Stadium. Delhi Speaker Ajay Maken said Lt-Governor Vijai Kapoor will distribute the prizes. Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit will be the chief guest.

Khalsa College hold Vivekanand

Khalsa College, Patiala, drew with Vivekanand College, Kolhapur, 2-2 in the Nehru Champion Colleges Hockey Tournament at the Shivaji Stadium on Friday. Umbhar Vasant put Vivekanand in the lead, which was equalised by Khalsa through Jatin Kumar. He struck again to put the Patiala college in the lead while Rajput Nandusing drew parity for Kolhapur.

In other matches, Guru Nanak Khalsa College, Yamuna Nagar beat St. Xavier’s College, Ranchi, 3-2 while College of Arts and Education, Annamalai, (Tamil Nadu) defeated Rourkela Municipal College 4-2.

Jatinder Kumar scored two goals and Sanjeev Kumar one for Guru Nanak. Prakash Kerketta and Thomas Nag scored for Ranchi.Rajni P Raja, Sudharshan (2) and Chandrasekhar scored the goals for Annamalai while Sushil Minz and Bijay Lohar accounted for Rourkela’s goals.

Saturday’s fixtures: NAS (PG) College, Meerut vs Youth Affairs and Adventure Sports, Gwalior (11.45 am); Faculty of Arts and Social Science, Aligarh vs St. Xavier’s College, Ranchi (1.45 p m); DAV College, Jalandar vs Faculty of Humanity, MGKV (3.30 pm)—Shivaji Stadium.
