Rain revives cold wave in region

Cold wave continued to sweep many parts of Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab and some parts of west Rajasthan and west Uttar Pradesh.

Rainfall: Rain or snow has occurred at most places in Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Uttaranchal. Rain or thundershowers have occurred at most places in Haryana, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh and at isolated places in Rajasthan. The chief amounts of precipitation in cms are: Haryana: Chandigarh and Naraingarh 2 each and Chhachhrauli and New Delhi (Palam) 1 each.

Himachal Pradesh: Dhundhi 13, Solangnala 11, Bhang 8, Bangana, Kahu, Kangra, Nadaun and Shimla 4 each, Berthin, Guler, Patsio, Sujanpurtira, Sundernagar, Solan and Una 3 each, Bhuntar, Ghamroor, Kasol, Nahan, Nagrotasurian, Pandoh and Sunibhajji 2 each and Rampurbushar 1.

Jammu and Kashmir: Jammu and Quazigund 3 each and Pahalgam and Srinagar 1 each.

Punjab: Adampur, Amritsar, Balachaur, Halwara, Nangal and Nawashahar 2 each and Ludhiana, Patiala and Samrala 1 each.

East Uttar Pradesh: Varanasi A.P. 1, West Uttar Pradesh: Bareilly 1 and Uttaranchal: Mukteshwar 2 and Dehradun, Pantnagar and Tehri 1 each.

Temperatures: Past 24 hours change: Minimum temperatures fell appreciably in west Rajasthan, fell in Punjab and East Rajasthan, rose appreciably in east Uttar Pradesh and changed little elsewhere. Departure: They were below normal in Uttaranchal, above normal in Jammu and Kashmir and east Uttar Pradesh and normal in the rest of the region. The lowest temperature in the plains was 3.1C recorded at Bikaner (Rajasthan).

Forecast valid until the morning of Feb 2: Rain or snow will occur at many places in Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Uttaranchal. Rain or thundershowers will occur at many places in Uttar Pradesh, at a few places in Haryana and Punjab and at isolated places in Rajasthan.

Heavy rainfall warning: Heavy rain or snow is likely at isolated places in Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Uttaranchal during the next 48 hours.

Forecast for Delhi and neighbourhood valid until the morning of Feb 2: Mainly cloudy sky with possibility of rain or thundershowers in some areas. Fog till forenoon.
