Nagreta, a happy man
Our Sports Reporter

Mohan NagretaChandigarh, January 31
City volleyball got the boost by winning the national title in the 30th Junior National Volleyball Championship organised in Kolkata recently. Going by the past performance and trend, volleyball has shown gradual improvement during the past three years.

The credit for the victory goes to Shivalik Public School, Sector 41, which began the volleyball academy a few years ago and gave enough exposure to young volleyball players to groom themselves.

Mohan Nagreta, volleyball coach, Sports Authority of India, posted with the Shivalik Academy is a happy man.

The dedication and devotion of this coach could be gauged from the fact that ever since Shivalik Public School launched its academy, Nagreta had been trying to pick up talent from nearby areas, be it Himachal Pradesh or Haryana.

Only last year, a few of his players were absorbed by the Haryana State Industrial Development Corporation Limited (HSIDC) when the latter decided to form its own volleyball team.

This team brought laurels when they bagged the national title last year in the senior section under the banner of the HSIDC.

Nagreta said a few boys of his academy were also on the verge of making it to the Indian Junior Volleyball team.

He said three players were already in the national camp. Eight of them were in the city team which won national title three days ago.

When asked what more the boys need in order to groom themselves, Nagreta said, for the national and other prestigious matches, city players need to practice in the indoor hall.

Nagreta said Mr D.S. Bedi of Shivalik Public School had given the layout of the plan to construct the indoor hall to the UT Administration but its approval was awaited.
