Medical students display creativity

Ludhiana, January 30
“Ectopia-04”, the three-day cultural bonanza for undergraduate medical students of Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), entered the second day today. The 1999 batch, with 66 points, was ahead of other batches. The 2000 and 2002 batches, with 49 points each, were in second spot.

In the instrumental music contest held yesterday, Mukul (2002 batch) was declared first for his performance on the keyboard, while Harsimran (1999 batch) was adjudged second for his performance on the tabla. Pankaj (2002 batch) was declared third. Dr Ashok Gupta, Dr Jasdeep Singh and Dr Chiranjeev Gill were the judges for the contest.

In the choreography competition, the 1999 batch was declared first for presenting an item based on a patriotic theme. The second prize was shared by the 2000 and 2002 batches. Dr Sandeep Puri, Dr R S Chhina, Dr P Sandhu and Dr Hetant Verma were the judges.

Today, the major crowd-puller was the “Just a minute” contest in which students had to speak on a topic for one minute. Dr Sandeep Puri conducted the event. Rishi ( 2000 batch) bagged the first position, Harsimran (1999 batch) stood second, and Anu Singh (2000 batch) and Mukul (2002 batch) shared the third prize. Dr S. C. Chopra, Dr Atul Mishra and Dr Gautam Ahluwalia were the judges.

In the on-the-spot painting competition, students showed their skills through various interpretations of the topic, “Love at first sight”. Harkeerat ( 2003 batch) was first, the second prize went to Bhawna and the third prize was given to Shampi (2000 batch). The judges were Dr Alka Dogra, Dr B. S. Shah and Dr Praveen Sobti.

In the debate competition, the topic was “Doctors makes the best marriage partners for a doctor”. The first position was bagged by Harsimran (1999 batch), followed by Anu Singla (2000 batch) and Mukul Avasthi (2002 batch). Dr Daljit Singh, Dr G. K. Ahuja, Dr Poonam Singh were the judges.

Basant celebrations at Gujranwala Institute

Ludhiana, January 30
Gujranwala Guru Nanak Institute of Management and Technology (GGNIMT] celebrated Basant with great pomp and show. It was fun and frolic all the way at the institute with students attired in yellow.

The function commenced with a welcome note by the Director of GGNIMT, Mr Kuldeep Singh. He emphasised on the importance of cultural activities for students .

A host of items were organised on this occasion, which included kite flying competition, antakshri, tambola, tug of war and Ms Basant Queen.

The winning antakshri team of the BBA comprised Varun, Inderpal and Gaurav Soin. Amandeep and Rajwant were adjudged Basant Queens. Winners of tug of war was the BCA team.

A dance item on 'Mast mahaul' was presented by Megha and Kavneet of BCA-4. A medley was staged by Varun and group that enthralled the audience. Anu of BCA 4 and Sarabjot of MBA 2 sang songs and won accolades.

On this occasion, Ms Nirmal Rishi, noted theatre personality,and Mr Inderjit Singh Hassanpuri, well- known lyricist, were the guests of honour .

Ex-students’ directory released

Ludhiana, January 30
To mark the finale to year-long diamond jubilee celebrations, the Old Students Association of Government College for Women organised a valedictory function here today. Educationist and economist Dr S.S. Johl was the chief guest.

The programme began with the recitation of shabads. The Principal, Ms Kusum Ahuja, welcomed the chief guest and introduced him to the gathering.

A cultural extravaganza was presented by students of the college under the guidance of Dr Sarabjot Kaur, general secretary of the association, and Ms N. Sekhon, Vice-Principal.

On this occasion, a directory of old students and a souvenir were released. Old students honoured on this occasion were Ms J.P. Kalsi, Ms B. Arora, Ms Baljit Somal, Ms Pushpa Sood, Ms Savitri Matta, Ms Nirmal Seda, Ms Manjit Gill, Ms Rajinder Saggar, Ms Surinder Sareen, Ms Surinder Shikha, Ms Hardeep Grewal, Ms Sarabjit Dhillon, Ms Harjeet Sandhu, Ms Suneila Dada, Ms Manjeet Sodia and Ms Santosh Bhamb.

Alumni meet

Ludhiana, January 30
It was bon homie all around when old and new students met each other on the occasion of alumni meet of the Punjab Institute of Management and Technology (PIMT), Mandi Gobindgarh.
The students felt joyous meeting their classmates and other friends. They were seen giving tips to fresh students on facing challenges in the corporate world.

The teachers were seen chatting up with their old students.

Dr O.P. Sahni, in his address, said as a teacher it felt great to see his students progress well in their careers.

Dr Sahni also announced that the PIMT would organise its first convocation on February 12, 2004. Prof. Y.S. Rajan, Vice-Chancellor, Punjab Technical University, would be the chief guest and confer degrees on students of MBA, MCA and BCA. Mr S.K. Salwan, Senior Adviser, PTU, would be the guest of honour. Dr Sahni said some reputed industrialists of the region were expected to attend the convocation. OC
