Sarvodaya School post comfortable victory

New Delhi, January 21
Sarvodaya Government Co-Education School, Nanakpura, scored a comfortable 2-0 victory over Hanuman Sanskrit School in an under-17 age group of the Kangaroo Cup Football Tournament at the Ambedkar Stadium on Wednesday.

Mehraj opened the account in the eighth minute while Gurtej added the second goal in the 57th minute. Sarvodaya have collected three points from as many matches while Hanuman School have not opened their account even after playing three matches.

St. Columba’s School drubbed Laxman Public School, Hauz Khas, 3-0 in another under-17 match. Shibul scored the first goal in the 22nd minute while Ronnie Kurian added the second goal in the 35th minute and Edwin Charles completed the tally in the 57th. Central Reserve Police Force School, Rohini prevailed over N K Bagrodia School, Rohini by a solitary goal in an under-14 match. Sushant V struck the match-winner in the 35th minute. In another under-14 match, Modern School, Vasant Vihar, got a walkover from Laxman School.

Thursday’s matches: St. Columba’s vs DPS (10.30 p m); Govt. Boys, Moti Bagh vs Chiranjiv Bharati (11.30 a m); Govt Boys vs Father Agnel (12.30 pm)—Ambedkar Stadium.

PHD-GPI Bridge Tourney

The second PHD-GPI Bridge Tournament will be held from January 22 to 25. The tournament, to be organised by PHDCCI, will carry a total cash prize of Rs 6 lakh.

The winners will take home Rs 1,00,000 while the runners-up will pocket Rs 60,000. There is also a separate best women’s team cash prize of Rs 15,000. In the pairs event, the winners will take home Rs 50,000 while the runners-up will get Rs 30,000.

Armaan to represent India in karting final

New Delhi, January 21
Armaan Ebrahim of JK Tyres will be taking part in the Junior World Cup Karting Championship to be held in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, from January 21 to 24.
This is the first time that a racer from India is participating in a world final.

Armaan will be one among the 22 participants from 18 countries in the 13 to 18 years age group. The winner of each group in the Rotax Championship will be selected to represent their country in the world finals with the exceptions of the host country and the previous year’s winning country who are allowed two entries each.

In preparation of the race, Armaan has undergone two gruelling training programmes in the last ten days. The

first was at the Kari Motor Speedway in Coimbatore from January 3 for 5 where he clocked the fastest timing of 39.70 secs, setting a new track record among 35 participants. Armaan then proceeded to Malaysia for a

five-day session from January 6 to 12 under coach Wai Leong and set the fastest time in the junior category at the Sepang International Karting circuit with a time of 49.01 secs.

Top amateurs for PSPB Inter-Unit Golf

Top amateurs of the country will participate in the PSPB Inter-Unit Golf Tournament, to be played at the Karnataka Golf Association course from January 21 to 24.
The two-day main event will be played on a stroke-play format with each team comprising a minimum of three and a maximum of five members. A one-day stableford event will raise the curtain on the 24th edition of the most prestigious amateur event on the Indian Golf Union’s calendar.

The team championship will be decided over two days, with the total of the best three scored in each team comprising the team’s score for that day. An individual strokeplay competition will further add to the excitement of the proceedings. In addition to the teams and individual competitions, there will be a separate competition for teams in the ‘handicap’ category, while other interesting ‘skills’ competitions like ‘long driving’ and ‘close-to-the-pin’ will be held.

“Nurturing talent from the grass-root level is PSPB’s top priority. Indian Oil boasts of employing some of the top sportspersons in the country who have made a mark at the national and international level”, said president of the Petroleum Sports Control Board P S Ramachandran.

Jyoti Randhawa, Gaurav Ghei, Vivek Bhandari, Harmeet Kahlon and Amandeep Johl are some of the players who have traversed through the petroleum route to excel in the golfing arena.

DLTA celebrates Annual Day

The Delhi Lawn Tennis Association (DLTA) celebrated its Annual Day at the Centre Court of the R K Khanna Stadium at the DLTA complex on Africa Avenue on Wednesday.

DLTA president Anil Khanna honoured all those who have contributed to the growth of tennis in Delhi. They included not only some of the tennis greats who have made Delhi their home, but also coaches, administrators, various organisations and last but not the least, media personnel.

Mr Anil Khanna has taken personal care to nurture the DLTA, making it not only the hub of tennis activity, but also the nerve centre of Indian tennis, bringing in many a satellite and other ITF events to the Capital.

With the setting up of the India Tennis Centre, the DLTA now boasts of myriad functions with tennis, of course, being the fulcrum of all sporting activity. Delhi Public School Society chairman Narender Kumar was the ‘guest of honour’ at the Annual Day celebrations.

Rajat, Sonu star for Indian Airlines

Rajat Bhatia played an all-round role (3 for 26 and 44) and left-arm spinner Sonu Sharma produced a deadly bowling spell of 3 for 24 to help Indian Airlines defeat Rajdhani Sports by four wickets in the Sahibzada Ajit Singh Cricket Tournament at the Guru Gobind Singh College ground, Pitampura. Rajat was declared the man of the match.

Scores: Rajdhani Sports: 160 for 9 in 40 overs (Ashish Sharma 45, Damanjeet Singh 39, Sonu Sharma 3 for 24, Rajat Bhatia 3 for 26, Vineet Jain 2 for 31).

Indian Airlines: 164 for 6 in 37.5 overs (Rajat Bhatia 44 n o, Chandan Madan 34 n o, Gaurav Vashishth 3 for 28, Joginder Sharma 3 for 19).

Modern School win

Modern School, Barakhamba Road, defeated Salwan Public School, Rajinder Nagar, by seven wickets in the Rohtak Road Gymkhana Inter-School Under-16 Cricket Tournament at the Modern School ground.

Scores: Salwan: 139 for 9 in 40 overs (Nikhil Sharma 40, Samarth Nagpal 32, Mohit Malhotra 3 for 25).

Modern School: 142 for 3 in 28.3 overs (Jagrit Anand 56 n o, Mohit Malhotra 41 n o).

In another match, DAV, Shalimarbagh defeated Bal Bharati School by three wickets at the Bharat Nagar ground.

Scores: 152 all out in 34.4 overs (Shubham Gupta 45 n o, Nischay Sharma 3 for 6, Sandeep Kaushik 2 for 16).

Ramit, Robin shine

Ramit Gill hit a century and Robin Bisht played an all-round role (57 and 5 for 30) as Poorvi Delhi Academy defeated United Cricket Academy by 163 runs and entered the semi-final of the second Rajeev Gandhi Memorial Under-17 Cricket Tournament at the Picnick Hut ground at Ashok Vihar.

Scores: Poorvi Delhi: 285 for 4 in 40 overs (Ramit Gill 100, Robin Bisht 57, Rajat Gupta 56, Chetan Bisht 35, Vikram Obrai 2 for 51, Vikas Mishra 2 for 27).

United Academy: 122 all out in 27.2 overs (Abhiroop Basu 68, Robin Bisht 5 for 30, Neeraj Tripathi 3 for 6).

Delta-Rahat win

Delta-Rahat defeated Panalpina by seven wickets to enter the final of the third Air Cargo Cricket Tournament at the Airports Authority of India ground.

Vikas Sharma slammed a strokeful century to help Anand Sports defeat Rajani Gandha Club by 32 runs in an A-II Division League match at the Mohan Meakin ground.

Scores: Anand Sports: 190 for 5 in 25 overs (Vikas Sharma 100, Naresh Dhaka 42, Pankaj Kumar 2 for 14).

Rajani Gandha: 158 all out in 23.3 overs (Akash Gahlot 77, Naveen Kumar 42, Bhargu Vashisht 3 for 29).

In another match, Ashoka Club defeated Rani Bagh by 44 runs in an A-II Division match at the RSKP ground.
