Ludhiana badminton from January 24

Ludhiana, January 21
The Ludhiana District Badminton Association (LDBA) will be conducting the District Badminton Championship for junior boys as well as girls here at the Shashri Hall of the Guru Nanak Sports Complex from January 24 to 27.
This was stated by Mr R S Behal, honorary general secretary, LDBA, today.

The championship is being sponsored by Hibird Cycles, Focal Point, Ludhiana.

The matches will be held both for boys and girls in the u-19, u-16, u-13 and u-10 categories. Entries close on January 23 at 5 pm with Mr Gianinder Singh, Sports Officer (Badminton), Mr Behal informed.

Volleyball meet at Mahilpur

Ludhiana, January 21
The Punjab State Volleyball Championship for senior men and women will be held at the SGGS Khalsa College, Mahilpur, from January 30 to February 1, according to Mr Raj Kumar, general secretary, Punjab Volleyball Association. Teams from all the districts along with those from BSF, Jalandhar, PAP, Punjab State Electricity Board, Patiala, and Punjab Roadways are expected to take part in the meet.

Entries may be sent to Dr S.S. Randhawa, organising secretary of the meet at Mahilpur.

Municipal Corporation Club win by 5 wickets

Ludhiana, January 21
Chanchal and Jatinder Vij excelled capturing three wickets each as the Municipal Corporation Cricket Club scored a five-wicket victory over Guru Nanak Engineering College, Ludhiana, in the ongoing cricket torunament being played at the GNE College ground here today.

After winning the toss and electing to bat first, Guru Nanak Engineering College scored 142 runs in 29.2 overs.

The Municipal Corporation Club surpassed the GNE College total in 24.3 overs after losing five wickets. Their captain Sunil Sharma played a fine knock of 36 which included five boundaries.

Brief scores: Guru Nanak Engineering College — 142 all out (Jiwan 34, Kamaljit Singh 28 and Aminder 18; Chanchal 3 for 9, Jatinder 3 for 27 and Rahul 2 for 28); and Municipal Corporation Club — 143 for 5 (Sunil Sharma 36, Jassi 21 and Rahul 22; Jiwan 2 for 17).

13 police officers transferred

Thirteen police officials were transferred by Mr Pramod Ban, SSP, last night. He said the transfers had been done on administrative grounds.
As per the orders, SHO (city) Inspector Dilbag Singh has been appointed circle Inspector Khanna, while the SHO, Sadar police station, Mr Rajan Parminder Singh, has been transferred as the SHO, city police station, Khanna. Mr Balwinder Singh, Sub Inspector, CIA staff, has been appointed SHO, Sadar Police Station. Sub Inspector Surinder Pal Singh, Additional SHO, city police station, has been transferred to the Police Lines, Khanna. Sub Inspector Ranjeet Singh has been appointed in charge, E.O. Wing.

ASI Sukhbir Singh, in charge, Kot police post, has been transferred to City police station, while ASI (ORP rank) Karnail Singh has been made in charge of the Kot police post. ASI (ORP rank) Avtar Singh has been transferred to city police station from Samrala police station. ASI Parmjit Singh has been made the Additional SHO, City police station, while ASI Sanjay Kumar, in charge Isru police post, has been transferred to City police station. ASI Baljinder Singh, Additional SHO, Sadar police station, has been appointed in charge of the Isru police post. ASI Karnail Singh has been tansferred to the National Highway patrolling unit from Samrala police station while ASI Mohan Lal has been transferred to Samrala police station from city police station.

29 sites yield 9 cr at auction

Ludhiana, January 21
Twentynine commercial sites — eight single-storey shops, five shop-cum-flats and 16 shop-cum-offices — yielded Rs 964.05 lakh at an auction conducted by Punjab Urban Development Authority (PUDA) at Dugri Road, Phase II, here today.

The amount was Rs 210.24 lakh more than the reserve price. The successful bidders were advised to deposit 15 per cent of the price of the sites within 130 days in addition to the 10 per cent deposited at the fall of the hammer. They were asked to construct the sites according to the zoning plan and building plan sanctioned by the Estate Officer.
