Imported gear needed for Olympic
preparations: Malhotra

New Delhi, December 25
The high-level Olympic preparation committee, under the Chairmanship of Vijay Kumar Malhotra, president of All India Council of Sports, stressed the need for importing consumable equipment required during the preparation Camp.

The representatives of National Sports Federations were advised to provide complete list of equipment and other details of competitions and training so that proper arrangement could be made in time.

The office bearers of National Sports Federations of the disciplines which have already qualified for the Olympics or are likely to qualify were invited to attend the meeting with details of their specific requirement.

Most of the Federations expressed their concern for imported consumable equipment required during the preparation camp.

Mr Malhotra assured that the Purchase Committee for procurement of imported equipment would be revived and would be empowered to relax rules for importing desired equipment as per the requirement of each National Sports Federations.

He suggested that National Sports Federations may also identify sports scientists, especially sports psychologists, physiotherapists working with their particular disciplines and recommend their names for the National Camps.

Mr Malhotra informed a list of countries with whom the Memorandum of Understanding was signed under Cultural Exchange Programme (CEP) to send Indian teams abroad for training-cum-competition and also to invite foreign teams.

It was further decided to expedite enlisting the services of national Coaches and foreign coaches.

The requirement of diet supplements was discussed in detail and the representatives present felt the need to approach cautiously as most of the diet supplements contain banned substance and may even lead to complications. Mr Malhotra asked Director General, Sports Authority of India to constitute an Expert Committee to look into the matter.

National School Games
UP down Uttaranchal

UP downed Uttaranchal 67-06 in a basketball match of the 49th National School Games, held at the Chhatrasal Stadium, Model Town, in the Capital on Thursday. In another match, Rajasthan won the match by 70-50 points.

Following are the results of National School Games 2003:

Basketball: UP Vs Uttranchal: UP won by 67-06 against Uttaranchal; Rajasthan Vs Gujarat: Rajasthan won by 70-50.

Handball: (Under 14 Boys): Rajasthan Vs Uttaranchal: Rajasthan won by 25-15 points; NVS Vs Chandigarh: Chandigarh won by 20-15 points; Haryana Vs Gujarat: Haryana won by 18-11 points; Delhi Vs Goa, Delhi won by 24-07 points.

Under 19 Boys: Chhattisgarh Vs Kerala: Chhatttisgarh won by 23-11.

Chess (Under 17 Boys): Delhi beat Goa by 3-1 in the 1st round. Under 17 Girls: Delhi lost to Goa by 1-3 in the 1st round. Under 19 year Girls: Chhattisgarh defeated Goa by 4-0 in the 1st round. Kerala defeated MP by 4-0 in the 1st round.

Judo (36 kg Sr Girls): 1st-Khushnuma (Delhi) 2nd - Preeti (Haryana) 3rd – Sosa Versa (Gujarat) and Rashmi (MP).

Lawn Tennis (Under 19 Girls): Delhi beat Kerala by 2-0; Sanna Bhambri beat Lucy Collopily (2-0) and Parul Goswamy beat Nisha Nayyar. Chandigarh beat Rajasthan by 2-0. Under 19 Boys: Chandigarh beat MP by 2-0; Gujrat beat Chhattisgarh by 2-0.

Salwan win world cup championship

Salwan Boys, Rajinder Nagar won the Cricket Invitational World Cup Championship held in Delhi from December 1 to 13. The event was organised by DPS Society. Salwan Education Trust chairman Shiv Dutt Salwan and Salwan Boys School principal R S Dabas blessed the team members and honored the coach Sanjay Bhardwaj with Rs 10,000, gifts hampers and also rewarded them three-day holiday trip to Nainital.

Dhruv Shorry (103 and 3 for 15) and deadly bowling 6 for 18 by Sunny Sehrawat helped Young Friends beat Hans Raj Model School by an innings and 38 runs in the AVIVA Young Achiever under-13 (two days) Cricket Tournament of Hans Raj School ground.

Scores: Yong Friends (Ist innings): 255 for six in 85 overs. Dhruv Shorry 103, Badrish Nathani 60, Varun Kumar 4 for 60.

HRM (Ist innings): 36 all out in 17 overs: Sunny Sehrawat 6 for 18, Dhruv Shorry 3 for 15.

Young Cricketers beat Pusa Youngsters by one wicket in DDCA A-1 division league at R S C ground, bowling 3/31 by Haryana under-19 player Ranchal Chaudhary and good knock of 47 by Vishal Sharmas helped Young Cricketers. Score: Pusa Youngsters: 145 all out in 37.5 overs. Young Cricketers: 146 for 9 in 39.2 overs.
