Animal welfare camp

Samrala, December 23
Under the Adarsh Gram Scheme started by the Government of Punjab, an animal welfare and awareness camp was organised at Mehdoodan village Focal Point, 7 km from here, yesterday.

On this occasion, many schemes for unemployed youth by the Animal Husbandry Department were announced. Apart from the chief guest, Mr Sukhbir Singh Pappy, political adviser to the local MLA, Mr Amrik Singh Dhillon, the gathering was addressed by Dr H.P.S. Gill, Deputy Director, Animal Husbandry, Ludhiana, and experts from the Department of Dairy Development and Fisheries. There was a massive response from the farmers who participated the function.

Free treatment was given by expert veterinarians and medicines were also distributed free of cost. As many as 252 animals were treated and medicines were supplied by the department.

Dr Amarjit Singh, senior veterinary officer, Samrala, and Dr (Capt ) Aditya Sewak, Medical Officer Incharge, Mehdoodan, thanked the farmers of the area for making the camp successful. OC

Xmas celebrations at schools

Ludhiana, December 23
The staff and students of Atam Devki Niketan, Kidwai Nagar, celebrated Christmas at a function held here today. On the occasion, the school was tastefully decorated with stars, bells and balls. Kids came dressed up like Santa Claus and fairies. A teacher dressed up as Santa Claus distributed sweets and gifts among all kids.

Ms Disha Dang, Headmistress, told the kids about the significance of the day. Students of Small Wonders Nursery School, Sangat Road, celebrated Christmas yesterday. Christmas was also celebrated at Dil’s Nursery School and a fancy dress show was organised on the occasion.

Two-day book fair at school

Ludhiana, December 23
A two-day book fair was inaugurated at BCM Arya Model Senior Secondary School, Shastri Nagar, on Tuesday. Books on fiction, puzzles, calligraphy and science were on display.

The chief guests of the day were two IITians, Mayank Kukreja and Saurabh Taneja, who were passout students of the school. Ms Parmjit Kaur, Principal, was also present.

Drama festival at Samrala

Samrala, December 23
The sixth drama festival and cultural programme was conducted by the Paras Rang Manch Samrala in the Harnam Nagar ground last night.
Mr Amrik Singh Dhillon, MLA, Samrala, inaugurated the function, while Mr Kirpal Singh Khattran and Dhanwant Singh Grewal lighted the ‘shama’. Mr Anil Sood, Mr Narinder Manku, Mr Gursant Singh Mr Harpreet Singh and Mr Jatinder Singh Joga were the guests of honour.

An action song competition and a bhangra contest were organised on the occasion.

‘Chitta Lahoo’, written and directed by Paramjeet Singh ‘Deputy’, was the main source of attraction. Mr Puneet Kumar, president of the club, thanked the audience. OC
