CAT on February 15

Ahmedabad, November 26
The retest for the cancelled common admission test (CAT) for the prestigious Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) will be held on February 15 next year, IIM-A Director Bakul Dholakia said here today.

The much-awaited fresh date was announced in a joint statement by the directors of six IIMs after a day-long meeting, and all other modalities of the retest, including printing of question papers and security-related details, were still under discussion.

The crucial exams, held for entrance into business management schools, were cancelled for the first time in its 28-year-old history on November 23 after the CBI unearthed a question paper leak racket and arrested six persons from Delhi and Pune, including the alleged kingpin, Dr Ranjit Singh.

The six IIM directors expressed regrets to both students and their parents for the inconvenience caused due to the paper leak.

Replying to a question, Dholakia said: “Details regarding the printing of question papers are yet to be decided by the CAT group and these will be kept confidential as always.”

The IIM-A Director said they had decided upon the fresh date for the retest keeping in mind that it does not clash with dates of other important exams nationwide.

Asked if the CBI would have any role during the retest in February, Dholakia said: “The agency’s advice will certainly be taken. But we are not planning to take any security support from them....only advice if need be.”

The IIM-A Director said 52 other institutes also used CAT scores and the February retest would be conducted in the same manner in which the CAT group had been conducting it.

Asked if the paper leak incident had strained relations with the Union Human Resource Development Ministry as it had also formed an inquiry committee apart from the IIM internal committee that probed the matter, the IIM-A Director replied in the negative. — PTI
