AG Haryana, UP share titles

Chandigarh, November 26
AG, Haryana, and AG, Uttar Pradesh, shared two titles each at the conclusion of the North Zone India Audit and Accounts department badminton championship organised here today at Sector 42 badminton hall. AG, Haryana pocketed veteran singles and women singles title while AG, Uttar Pradesh won men singles and men team championship titles.

AG, Uttar Pradesh today shocked AG, Punjab by three matches to two to bag the team championship. In the first singles, Sandeep Tiwari of AG, Uttar Pradesh, beat Vikas Sharma 15-3,15-4 while in the second singles, Ashish Sharma of AG, Punjab got the better of Deepak Saxena 15-5,15-4 to equalise for his team at 1-1. In the first doubles, Ashish and Amit of AG, Punjab, further consolidated their position by beating Utsav and Salil of AG, Uttar Pradesh, with scores being 15-11,15-10. But in the third singles, Utsav Mishra of AG, Punjab defeated Amit Sachdeva 15-7,15-4 to level 2-2 for AG, Uttar Pradesh. In the decider doubles, Jaswant Rai and Love Kumar of AG, Punjab proved mismatch to Sandeep Tiwari and Deepak Saxena of AG, Uttar Pardesh, and lost 3-15, 2-15.

In the men singles final, Utsav Mishra of AG, Uttar Pardesh, thrashed Ashish Sharma of AG,Punjab by 15-7,15-7 to clinch the title. Ashish fought for every point but could not match the rythem of Utsav who is among the top 10 players in the country.

Mr Nand Lal, Accountant-General (A and E), Punjab, and UT, Chandigarh, gave away the prizes.

Gautam Rathi wins 3 medals

Panchkula, November 26
Gautam Rathi, a student of St Xavier School, Sector 20, Panchkula, won three medals in the 9th District Roller Skating Championship held at Blue Bird School, Sector16, Panchkula, on November 25 and 26.

Rathi participated in all events (races and hockey) and won distinction in all events.

This is the first time that St Xavier School participated in the tournament and performed creditably. Their junior team (boys) got a bronze medal.

Results: Rink Race II — Gautam Rathi got the silver medal.

Road Race: Gautam Rathi won the gold medal (above 14 years, boys group).

Gautam Rathi is a student of Class VIII.

Blue Bird Club win roller hockey title

Chandigarh, November 26
The Blue Bird Club, Sector 16, Panchkula bagged the sub-junior girls and junior boys titles while the Hansraj Club, Sector 6, secured the sub-junior boys title in the roller hockey event on the final day of the Ninth Panchkula District Roller Skating championship here today at Blue Bird School, Sector 16, Panchkula.

In this two day meet, nearly 200 skaters in the age group of 5 to 16 years drawn from various schools took part in various events. Mr Jogi Ram, SE, HUDA was the chief guest. He gave away prizes and medals to the winners.

Results:

(above 14 years) Amit Chaudhary 1, Gautam Rathee 2. (12 to 14 years) Mayank Dwivedi 1, Piyush 2. 12 to 14 years (Girls) Amber Aggarwal 1, Karanpreet Gill 2.

Girls (10 to12 years) Nandini Mahajan 1, Meenu 2.

Boys (8 to10 years):

Mudit Gupta1, Anshul 2. Girls (8 to 10 years) Naureen Midha 1, Jaspreet Kaur 2. Boys (six to eight years), Gautam Pranjal 1, Bhavya Sharda 2. Girls (six to eight years) Shriya Bhatia 1, Tanvi Khullar 2.

Below six years:

Devanshu Garg 1, Hrithik Bansal 2.

Girls:

Mehak Aggarwal 1, Bhavya Gupta 2.

Road race (above 14 years), boys:

Gautam Rathi 1, 12 to 14 yrs: Arjun Gaddi1, Achal Bhatnagar 2. Girls: Karanpreet Gill 1, Rachit Aggarwal 2.

10 to 12 years, boys:

Vishal Maini 1, Shubham Narang 2. girls: Neha Singh 1, Meenu Boria 2.

Eight to 10 years, boys: Celeste Goel 1.

Six to eight years, boys:

Gautam Pranjal 1, Sidharth Vashisht 2.

Six to eight years: Shriya Bhatia 1, Tanvi Khullar 2.

Netball panel selection today

Chandigarh, November 26
The Netball Association of Chandigarh will hold the selection trials tomorrow to select the UT youth team (both boys and girls section) for the First National Youth Games to be held at Bangalore in January. 

The trials will begin at 3 pm at Government Model High School, Sector 28. This was stated by Mr R. Sharan, Secretary of the association.
