Our Correspondent

Sonepat, November 25
As financial assistance under the European Commission plan has started coming to the local health authorities, the health institutions functioning in the district will now be getting a much needed facelift. An amount of Rs 1 lakh has been received as the first instalment of the proposed estimates submitted to the government by the local authorities for renovation of the buildings of various institutions.

According to the Health Department spokesman, Dr O. P. Bakshi, the amount received would be utilised for the repairs completed in the hospitals and health centres at Gohana, Ganaur, Kharkhoda, Juan, Sonepat and Murlana.

He informed there were 32 health centres, including hospitals, community health centres, primary health centres and dispensaries in the district. Most of the buildings of these centres were in a dilapidated condition and medical equipment there had become antiquated for want of funds.

“We have received demands from the in-charge of the centres and these demands have already been sent to the health authorities at Chandigarh for allocation and release of the funds to carry out necessary repair works and replacement of medical equipment,” he said. Demands for ultrasound machines for Gohana and Ganaur hospitals had also been made in the proposals.

After receiving proposals from the district authorities, a team from the European Commission visited the places to assess the demands made in the proposals and after the team’s report the amount was released, he added.
