City lads clinch hockey title

Giving a consistent performance, Ludhiana district boys won the hockey title in the Punjab State Rural Games conducted in Sangrur from November 14 to 16. Mr Sohan Lal Lotey, District Sports Officer, said here today that in the final,
Ludhiana players trounced Fatehgarh Sahib 4-0 to clinch the title. In kabaddi, Ludhiana and Sangrur lads played a tough match. Hosts Sangrur came out triumphant 52-41. Ludhiana boys outscored Hoshairpur 4-2 and one innings in kho-kho and had to content with the third place. In track events, Ludhiana athletes — Harpreet Singh finished runner-up in high jump while Amritpal Singh got the third position in long jump. Jasdeep Kaur of Ludhiana secured the third position in javelin throw. Hosts Sangrur lifted the overall trophy while Ludhiana finished second and won the runners-up trophy.
Varun wins squash titleVarun Adya created record of sorts by winning squash title for the fourth consecutive year during an annual sports carnival organised by the Sutlej Club here. In the final, Gagan Chopra failed to turn up due to an injury and Varun was declared the winner. Earlier, on his way to the final, Varun, in the quarter final drubbed Ankur Munjal 9-0 and 9-0 and the in the semifinal against Ishmeet Singh, Varun faced a little resistance before emerging victorious 9-6 and 9-6. In the second semifinal, Gagan Chopra survived many anxious moments against Rahul Taneja and managed to beat him 10-9 and 9-6.
Narangwal sports from Nov 26The 10th edition of the annual sports festival to be organised by the Grewal Sports Club, in association with Gram Panchayat and local residents at Narangwal village, will be held from November 26 to 30. Giving this information, Ms Balbir Kaur, Sarpanch, said this year, the festival would be dedicated to late Inder Mohan Singh Grewal. During this five-day sports
extravaganza, competitions in kabaddi, football, bullock-cart races and dogs races would be conducted. Cash prizes will be given to the winners in the different events.
