Tussle for supremacy among separatists Jammu, November 17 While the faction led by Syed Ali Shah Geelani is giving a new shape to the organisation that could be loyal to him, those supporting Molvi Abbas Ansari have stopped visiting the APHC headquarters in Rawalpindi. Reports reaching from across the border said even the Peoples’ Conference representative Yusuf Naseem, functioning as the convener of the APHC prior to its split, too had not gone to the APHC headquarters in Rawalpindi for the past fortnight. According to these reports, Ansari’s supporters have avoided visiting the APHC headquarters after they realised that the establishment in Pakistan had stopped giving patronage to them. As the supporters of Geelani, across the border, were busy preparing a list of names who would be taken on the executive committee of the APHC (Geelani), rival faction leaders have started trading charges against him. Supporters of Geelani, while blaming him for causing the split in the APHC, have accused him of being a man of the two Indian intelligence agencies, the RAW and the IB. They have gone to the extent of charging Geelani with conniving with the RAW and the IB for splitting the APHC in Srinagar. Against this, Geelani’s loyalists dub APHC leaders, led by Ansari, as “men of the Government of India.” These loyalists have accused Molvi’s men of having “deviated from the real path the APHC had chalked out and secretly joined hands with the Government of India which has helped them in being on the right side of men who man the PMO.” Back in Srinagar Sajjad Lone of the Peoples’ Conference, who is with the APHC (Abbas), has described Geelani as “partyless wonder.” He has gone to the extent of accusing Geelani of having a secret understanding and alliance with Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohd Sayeed, which had helped the PDP to win sizeable number of seats in the previous Assembly poll. However, political observers here opine that Lone’s outbursts, which he made in an interview to a Pakistani newspaper, was a double edged” weapon with which he wanted to attack Geelani and keep the Pakistani establishment in good humour. These observers referring to Lone’s statement, in which he had said that elections were not a substitute to a plebiscite, say that this was to ensure security for himself and for his partymen when Peoples’ Conference leaders had lost the support of agencies across the border after its founder Abdul Gani Lone, had made series of uncharitable remarks against Pakistan and foreign mercenaries before he was killed by unidentified gunmen.
