Zinnia shines Zinnia Ahlawat of pre-nursery stole the limelight in pick-the-ball contest as part of the annual sports meet of Delhi Public School, Panchkula/Pinjore, which concluded at Sector 12, Panchkula, near here, on Sunday. There were fun-filled races and fun games and the children had a lot of enthusiasm. In elephant race, Mehak Singla of nursery secured first place. Other winners in various events included, sack race- Kushik Kapoor- prep; Dressup and run- Nikhil Kundu- Class I; three-legged race: Raghav Mehta and Rishab Kumari-Class II; senior sports meet: lemon-and-spoon race: Sanchi- Class I; book balancing: Yashodhar-Class V; cross-obstacle and search coin: Akhshansh-Class V; Obstacle race: Salil-Class VI; hop-and-cross obstacle: Saurabh- Class VII. |
Inter-sector athletic meet begins Chandigarh, November 17 The ITBP’s eight sectors, including Liaison and Communication, Jammu and Kashmir I and II, Training, Gharwal, Kumaon, Leh and Himachal Pradesh are participating in the event. Following a marchpast and oath-taking ceremony by the participating sportspersons, the meet was declared open by the Deputy Speaker, Punjab Vidhan Sabha, Mr Bir Devinder Singh, who was the chief guest on the occasion. Lauding the force for its performance in various activities and wishing the participants success, he recalled the role played by the force in maintaining internal security in Punjab. The finals of 5000-metres race were also held, in which Satpal Singh, Rajbir Singh and Channinder Kumar bagged the first three positions, respectively. A tug of war, a gymnastic show and a band display were also organised. |
Motorcycle rally in final stage Chandigarh, November 17 According to a statement here, the rally was launched from Mangalore on November 3 in commemoration of the unit’s 225th raising day. It had reached Zirakpur last evening after covering a distance of about 3000 km. The rally comprises an officer, two Junior Commissioned Officers and 20 other ranks. The unit has won several battle honours and gallantry awards during its over two centuries of existence. Since Mangalore was the first battle honour of the unit, the rally began from there. |
Teams from 20 schools take part in contests Chandigarh, November 17 About 160 students participated and 120 students participated in the book-mark-making competition. The competition was organised as a part of “book week” and Children’s Day celebrations. The results will be declared tomorrow. About 150 students are expected to participate in a face painting competition to be held on November 18. Earlier quiz competitions were held on November 12 and November 13 . The results of the quiz competition are as follows: (junior group) St Kabir School (1), St Stephens School (2), and Shishu Niketan School (3). (Senior group) Guru Nanak Public School (1), Government Model Senior Secondary School-Sector 16 (2), and St Stephens School- Sector 45 (3). |

Four-day school celebrations end Chandigarh, November 17 Teachers provided fun time to the children. They arranged for a party for the children and organised fun games and surprise gifts. Sweets were distributed and the students were given eatables. Handmade gifts like face masks and photo frames made by the teachers were distributed. The finale was an excursion at Forest Hill Resort. Over 100 students were taken to the resort. Activities like trekking, nature appreciation, frisbee, wildlife spotting, musical chairs, fishing and antakshri were organised. They were also served a welcome drink and lunch. |

Punjab win police golf team title Chandigarh, November 17 Kho-kho meet The kho-kho team of Sanjay Public School, Sector 44, won the runner-up trophy in the CBSE national kho-kho meet in under-19 section held in New Delhi. In the final, Sanjay School boys lost to DAV Centenary Public School, Delhi, by one point. |

Calicut eves rule pool Chandigarh, November 17 In water polo final, Pune University won the honours when in the final, they downed Kerala University 7-3. Third place went to Mumbai University, who outplayed Amravati University 5-4. Karate events An inter-school karate championship was organised by the Karate-Do- Indo-Ryu Association here last evening at the St Soldier’s Paradise School, Zirakpur. 110 rickshaws impounded Chandigarh, November 17 The anti-encroachment drive, which began in the morning, ended in the evening, with 132 challans. The Additional Commissioner, Mr Arun Sekhri, led the drive. An officer in the enforcement staff said vehicles from two unauthorised taxi stands in Sectors 8 and 9 were also removed. Earlier, the officers of the enforcement wing carried out a survey to ascertain the number of unauthorised rickshaw stands in Sectors 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11. The area councillor, Mr Chander Mukhi, and the Additional Commissioner carried out the survey. At least 22 unauthorised rickshaw stands used for parking of 250 rickshaws were identified. |
180 commercial sites to be auctioned Chandigarh, November 17 The auction for the commercial sites will be held on December 8 and 9 and while for residential sites it will be held on December 10. Before the start of the auction, Rs 50,000 shall be deposited as security by the bidder and the successful bidder will deposit 10 per cent of the premium at the fall of the hammer and 15 per cent will have to be paid within 30 days from the date of the auction. The remaining 75 per cent of the premium shall be payable in three annual equated instalments along with interest at the rate of 10 per cent per annum. |
