Karate grade
promotion test

As many as 429 aspirants from different schools turned up for karate grade promotion tests conducted by the Indian Ving-Tchun Kung-Fu (W) Association (IVTIKA) at Sacred Heart School, Samrala, yesterday. The students were examined for various techniques, including punches, blocks, kicks, concentration, fitness and communication skills, and 413 karatekas qualified for grade promotion, according to Mr Om Parkash Verma, president, National Affairs, IVTIKA. The following karatekas secured more than 80 per cent marks in their grading: Kartik, Sehajpreet and Parampreet (green belt); Jaspal Thareja, Baldeep, Mamta, Jaspreet and Sahil (green belt); and Shiveta (yellow belt). The tests were conducted under the supervision of Mr Harkamal, Mr Jai Verma, Mr Rajeev Jain and Mr Jaswinder Singh, all senior instructors and officiating examiners of the IVTIKA, said Mr Om Parkash.
