Workshop on functional English
Our Correspondent

Ludhiana, October 11
Nearly 78 teachers from CBSE schools of the district attended a workshop on functional English organised at Guru Nanak International Public School, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town, here today.

Ms Jayashree Kannan, resource person, gave various tips on classroom teaching of functional English. She discussed various common grammatical mistakes made by the students. She also talked on ways to improve the phonetics and fluency of the students in the language.

Ms Kannan stressed on making the subject more interesting by making the students write on novel topics.

She suggested that the teachers should ask the students to pen down news items and spot coverages of school functions, prepare a magazine, write poetry and humorous short anecdotes from their day-to-day experiences so as to improve their vocabulary as well as composition.

Ms Kannan gave the teachers various practical exercises during the workshop. A question-answer session was held to make it more interactive. All participating teachers felt satisfied as they said they had learnt many new things.

Earlier, Ms B.Gulati, Principal of the host school, welcomed Ms Kannan and said she was the author for various CBSE books. She had taken training in functional English from London and had taught in Delhi Public School for more than five years. Presently Ms Kannan was working with the CBSE, she added.

DMC Principal from within faculty
Our Correspondent

Ludhiana, October 11
The management of Dayanand Medical College and Hospital has decided to have the new Principal of the DMC from within the faculty.
A decision to this effect was taken at the general body meeting of the managing society of Dayanand Medical College and Hospital held under the chairmanship Mr Brijmohan Munjal, president.

Earlier, the management was considering to have successor of Dr S.C. Ahuja, Principal, who retired on September 30, from outside. But the move was resented by the faculty on the plea that in the past principals of the DMC had been selected from within the college faculty.

Mr Brijmohan Munjal while addressing the faculty meeting one day prior to the General Body meeting also announced that the new principal would be selected from within the faculty. Dr Daljit Singh, Head of the Department of Paediatrics, is officiating as the Principal of the college at present.

The General Body could not take a final decision regarding the introduction of the chamber practice at the DMCH and also deferred the construction of the chambers for the same on the hospital premises.

The meeting decided to set up two committees — a leasing committee headed by Mr Gian Chand Dhawan and a building committee which would be headed by Mr Dharamvir Bector.
