J&K to remove disparity in medicos’ allowances

Srinagar, September 17
The Jammu and Kashmir Government is contemplating to remove disparity in the honorarium of the post-graduate medicos in various medical colleges of the state.

The Finance Department has cleared the proposal for submission to the Cabinet. Around 324 post-graduate students of government medical colleges in Srinagar and Jammu will benefit from the decision. This will result in a financial implication of Rs 2.20 crore for the government.

According to the decision, post-graduate students of the government medical colleges in Srinagar and Jammu, who have not been cleared by the DPC, will be entitled to all allowances as are being drawn by their counterparts who have been cleared by the PSC.

At present the post-graduate students who are cleared by the PSC are placed in the pay scale of Rs 8,000-13,500 and are in addition drawing the DA, HAR, MA and CCA.

The post-graduate students who are not cleared by the PSC are drawing Rs 8,000 per month.

With this decision, each post-graduate student will benefit by at least Rs 5,670 each.

The demand for bringing in parity in the honorarium of post-graduate medicos was raised by the medicos at a Doctors’ Day function here recently.

The Minister for Finance, Mr Muzaffar Hussain Baig, who was present here, had assured them that he would do away with the disparity. — UNI
