Tarun Sangha tame Collegians
Our Sports Reporter

New Delhi, August 31
Tarun Sangha scored a facile 4-1 victory against Collegians in the Delhi Soccer Association-SAIL Senior Division Football League Championship at the Ambedkar Stadium on Sunday.

Tarun Sangha, who dominated the match from the start, knocked in three goals in the first half. Inside-right Pushpender helped Tarun Sangha open the account in the 12th minute and six minutes later, Debabrata enhanced the lead.

Pushpender scored the third goal before half time.

On resumption, Collegians put on a dogged fight and reduced the margin through striker Bhola Biswas.

But their aggression ended in a whimper when Tarun Sangha scored the fourth goal through outside-left Membro in the 82nd minute.

Tarun Sangha have earned nine points from five matches while Collegians are yet to log a point.

In a Group A match played at the Ambedkar Stadium, Raisina Sporting hit back to hold Shahdara Club to a 1-1 draw.

Shahdara took the lead in the 15th minute through Bhupender Thakur. Raisina Sporting restored parity in the 61st minute when Nishit Das found the target.

Favourites Shastri Club cast away their indifferent form to record a thumping 8-0 victory against Bhuddist Blue Stars. In a hopelessly lop-sided match, Tarsom Singh (three goals), Manoj, Sameer Jungh (2), Nageshwar Rao and Tabir Ahmed were the marksmen. Shastri have collected ten points from five matches.

BB Stars have not yet earned a point after five ties.

Former champions Indian Nationals whipped Delhi Police 5-0. Delhi Police, playing without two of their key players following the suspension of Mahesh Bisht and Sanjeev Shah by the DSA following an “ugly incident” in their match against Moonlight at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on August 28, were on the receiving end for most part of the match.

Deepak Kumar, who scored four goals in a row, was the hero of Nationals’ victory. Osmon Jhon Ekka netted the fifth goal.

Nationals have earned six points from four matches while Delhi Police have just one point from five matches.

Monday’s fixtures: Hindustan Club vs Moonlight (2.30 pm); New Delhi Heroes vs City Club (4.30 pm)—Ambedkar Stadium. Goans vs Raisina Sporting (2.30 pm); Indian Air Force (New Delhi) vs Mughals (4.30 pm)— Nehru Stadium.
