Corrupt will be thrown out, says Justice Roy

The Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, Mr Justice B.K. Roy, today asserted that those indulging in corruption would be “thrown out”. He also called for transparency in the system as the general public has high hopes from the judiciary.

After hoisting the national flag at a function held on the occasion of Independence Day on the court premises here today, Mr Justice Roy said: “Corruption has to be uprooted if it comes in the way of administration of justice.”

The Chief Justice said those indulging in corruption had to be thrown out to make the administration of justice smooth.

Addressing a gathering of retired and sitting Judges, besides the Advocates-General of Punjab and Haryana, along with the lawyers, the Chief Justice added that zeal from “mansa” or mind, “vaacha” or speech and “karmna” or action, was required for “pure administration of justice.”

Mr Justice Roy said the judiciary at all levels had to do its best to secure justice. He said it had to provide quick justice, independent of all vices. “The administration of justice not only includes the delivery of judgements, but their execution also,” he added.

After a march past by Indo-Tibetan Border Police personnel led by Deputy Commissioner of Police S.C. Thapalyal, students of Government Senior Secondary School, Sector 21, presented patriotic songs. The High Court Joint Registrar, Dr Neelima Shangla, recited patriotic poems.

Later, about 100 saplings were planted by the Chief Justice, along with several sitting and retired Chief Justices. The court officials were led by High Court Registrar Pritam Pal.

Chargesheet filed against Bhardwaj

The UT police has filed a chargesheet against suspended Judicial Magistrate S.S. Bhardwaj in a case registered against him by the CBI.

The Superintendent of Police(CBI), Mr R.S. Bhatti, had lodged a complaint against Bhardwaj on June 11. He stated that a trap was laid by a CBI team at Bhardwaj’s residence on June 10 after obtaining permission from the Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

He added that Bhardwaj was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting an amount of Rs 7 lakh.

‘Satrangi Peeng’ released

After a gap of two years, Punjabi singer-brothers Harbhajan and Gursewak Mann got together for a duet album “Satrangi Peeng” which was released recently .

Addressing a press meeting here today, Harbhajan and Gursewak shared their experiences in realising their dreams. Regarding their latest album, Harbhajan said: “The idea was to record together a folk-based album which captures the real flavour of Punjab,” The album has got lyrics by Babu Singh Mann and Karnail Singh Paras and music by Jaidev.

Singing together has never been a problem for the brothers. “We have been singing together since our childhood, so coordinating our voices for this album was easy,” says Gursewak. Harbhajan, who is still basking in the success of his first movie “Jee Aaiyan Nu” has already bagged another lead role in “Aasanu Mann Batna” - another Punjabi film to be directed by Manmohan Singh. “The name of the lead actress will be announced soon,” said Harbhajan. The first half of the film will be shot in the USA and the second half in Jalandhar.

Gursewak has also ventured into acting and his debut film “Banana Brothers” — made in English as well as Hindi — is about to be released. Directed by Girja Shankar , the film is all about the struggle of an Indian who migrates to America. “I am playing the role of a taxi driver who migrates from Punjab to America. Though it is all about struggle, the main ingredient of the film is comedy,” said Gursewak. Johny Lever, Anupam Kher and Gulshan Grover are also there in the movie.

‘Tere Naam’ crucial for Salman

THE star of ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’ is in the news again. His new movie ‘Tere Naam’ opens today at Batra, Chandigarh and Suraj, Panchkula. This love story by director Satish Kaushik is crucial for its hero Salman Khan. This one is produced by Mukesh Talreja and Sunil Manchanda.

The promos for the latest Salman Khan starrer go, ‘unfortunately, a true love story’. The buzz is that Gautam Kumar presentation ‘Tere Naam' could be Salman Khan's way of telling his side of the Aishwarya Rai affair . The promos are already on the air and feature debutant Bhoomika Chawla.

Salman Khan plays a clean guy, but a misunderstood lover. How fate exercises its power is the climax of 'Tere Naam' which is a remake of a Tamil's super hit film 'Sethu'.

Sachin Khedekar, Savita Prabhune, Anang Desai, Sarfaraz Khan and Ravi Kissen play 'supporting roles. Mahima Chaudhary has a guest appearance. It has Sameer's lyrics for Himesh Reshammiya's music.
