Ludhiana shuttlers for Punjab meet

Ludhiana, August 13
The Ludhiana District Badminton Association (LDBA) conducted trials at the Shastri Hall of Guru Nanak Sports Complex here yesterday to select teams for the Punjab State Badminton Championship for boys and girls as well as men and women scheduled to be organised at Hans Raj Raizada Stadium, Jalandhar , from August 16 to 20.

According to Mr R S Behal, honorary general secretary, LDBA, 41 players in all categories attended the tirals and the following shuttlers were selected to represent Ludhiana in the forthcoming meet.

Men- Lakhwinder Singh, Ranbir Singh, Ashutosh of Green Land Senior Secondary School and Punjab Masih.

Women- Prerna of Government College and Maninder Kaur of Khalsa College for Women.

Junior boys (under-19) - Gurbax Singh, Ashutosh and Raj Kumar of Green Land Senior Secondary School, Mandeep Singh of S.D Government College and Punjab Masih.

Junior girls(under-19)- Manider Kaur of Khalsa College and Prerna of Government College. Boys( under-10)- Amit Bhasin of M.D.Bhatt Senior Secondary School and Bhavya Dawar. Girls( under-10)- Steffi Kala of Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School, Bhai Randhir Singh Nagar.

PAU school win cricket tournament

Ludhiana, August 13
Government Model Senior Secondary School, Punjab Agricultural University, beat SAN Jain Model Senior Secondary School by 29 runs to reach the final of the Inter -School (PAU Zone) under-19 Cricket Tournament at the PAU ground here today.

Deciding to bat first after winning the toss, Government Model Senior Secondary School scored 90 runs by losing 8 wickets in 20 overs. Three batsmen namely Manpreet Anu (13), Girish (12 n.o) and Manpreet Singh (10) could reach the double-figure mark. For SAN Jain Model Senior Secondary School, the most successful bowlers were Vishal and Saurabh who claimed three and two wickets conceding 8 and 15 runs, respectively. Other notable bowlers were Shagun, Chinton and Jatin who captured one wicket each.

PAU lads then restricted their opponents to 61 runs. Only Chinton (19) could resist PAU bowlers. For PAU School, Lalit and Manpreet Anu excelled, grabbing three and two wickets for 6 and 14 runs respectively. Jatin, too, took two for eight runs while Sonu captured one for four runs.

Sanatan Vidya Mandir school reach final

Sanatan Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School, Civil Lines , registered a stunning 11-run victory over Kundan Vidya Mandir School, Civil Lines, to reserve their berth in the final of the Inter -School (PAU Zone) Cricket Tournament (under-16) being played at the S D P College for Women here today. In the final, slated for Thursday, Sanatan Vidya Mandir School will clash with SDP Senior Secondary School. The SDP school had defeated Nauhria Mal Jain Senior Secondary School in another semi-final.

Sanatan Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School won the toss and opted to bat first. They made 75 for the loss of nine wickets in the allotted 16 overs. However, this modest target proved to be an uphill task for the Kundan Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School batsmen as their innings folded at 64 runs in 14.4 overs.

Kundan Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School 64 all out ( Arjun 17, Tarun 8 and Aditya 16; Atul 1 for 12, Yogesh 1 for 6 and Nakul 2 for 17)

Cricket trials on Sunday

The Ludhiana District Cricket Association (LDCA) will conduct trials to select the Ludhiana team at Arya College for Boys on August 17 at 8 am. According to Mr Vinod Chitkara, honorary general secretary, LDCA, the selected players will represent Ludhiana in the Punjab State Inter- District Cricket Tournament for the KatochShield being organised by the Punjab Cricket Association.
