Publisher told to withdraw book
Kiran Deep

Chandigarh, August 2
The UT Consumer Court today directed the Bright Career Institute publishing house through its director in New Delhi to pay a compensation of Rs 50, 000 for providing incorrect information in a book.

Taking a serious note of the wrong information provided in “Careers Objective Law” (For Civil Service Preliminary Examination), the consumer court also directed the publisher to immediately withdraw the book from publication, sale and circulation. It also directed the publisher to cease the publication of this “hazardous” book and pay Rs 2,000 as costs of litigation to the complainant.

The court observed that the book “spreads wrong information about Indian polity, constitution and law and supplies sure recipe for failure in exam”.

The complainant, Mr Rajesh Sharma, a resident of Sector 20-B here, had alleged that he had to appear in the preliminary examination of the PCS (Executive Branch). To prepare for the exam, he purchased the book titled “Careers Objective Law” (For Civil Service Preliminary Examination) for Rs 250 published by Bright Careers Institute, New Delhi from Variety Book Store, Sector-17.

The complainant said since the law paper for the preliminary examination was to be of objective type having multiple-choice questions, the book was also on the same pattern. He alleged that the book contained many wrong answers and so he had to waste much of his time in cross-checking the correctness of questions and answers given in the book. He said he contacted the book seller but he refused to take the book back. Thereafter, he filed a case against the publisher and bookstore, demanding a compensation of Rs 2 lakh.

Meanwhile, the Bright Career Institute, Delhi, challenged the maintainability of this complaint and stated that the complainant ought to have filed a civil suit for damages.

The court had appointed Dr Paramjit Singh Jaswal, Professor of law, Panjab University to verify the facts. In his report, Dr Jaiswal stated that out of 45 objective questions given in the book, answers to 19 questions were wrong. But the publisher denied the allegations.

Mirchi girl sans ‘inhibitions’
Tribune News Service

Chandigarh, August 2
Rakhi Sawant has no qualms about using her sexuality to work her way up the ladder of Bollywood. In less than one year of her presence in the tinsel town, this Mumbai girl has done close to six sensational appearances in productions of fairly renowned banners.

Call it the benefit of being hot and happening or anything else, Rakhi Sawant is already boasting of a positive role in Shahrukh Khan’s home production, being directed by ace choreographer Farha Khan. In the city for yet another sensual presentation in the show organised in Sector 17 Plaza, Rakhi Sawant said she does not feel ashamed of doing what she is doing.

As for Rakhi, she went a few steps ahead by claiming, “If the Hollywood heroines can do things in the name of cinema, why can’t we. I have never felt bad about exposing my assets. In fact, I can do whatever the script demands, provided the Censor Board has no problems with the scenes I shoot.”

As the young girl makes claims that are more than just bold, one wonders what must have inspired her into so much of action. “Well, I have been doing theatre with Nadira Babbar for long. Many of my roles on stage have been bold too. That’s why I have had so many golden jubilee stage productions. I have done plays, Panchhi and Oedipus with Nadira Babbar. I have also done a lot of Marathi theatre. It was while I was doing stage that director Shakeel Nurani picked me up for the film Johru ka ghulam where I worked with Govinda and Twinkle Khanna.”

However, Rakhi’s big break came in “Chura liya hai tumne” where she was pitted in an item song opposite Zaheed Khan. “I made sure that I made sense in the item song. Gyrations has to be sensual. The song became an instant hit and I have been loaded with offers for item songs ever since. I am doing another bold number in Surya, which has Milind Soman in the lead,” says Rakhi, famous for the song “Mohabbat hai mirchi.”

The latest flick in which this item girl is featuring has Isha Koppikkar and Pankaj Dheer in the main roles. “I have shot for that film in Chandigarh. We are again coming back next month for shooting the same film,” said Rakhi, who is excited about her role in Shahrukh Khan’s film “Mai hoon na”, in which Shahrukh and Sushmita play the lead pair.

Says Rakhi, “After doing so many negative roles, I wondered if I could fit well into a positive one, but Shahrukh Khan trusted me and cast me with Zaheed Khan in his film. The shooting is going on. I am also shooting for Manisha Koirala’s home production paisa Wasool.”

Rakhi Sawant was accompanied by Mahesh Kalra to the city, who is all set to direct his film now. having assisted Bijaya Jaina, the award winning director who made “Aabhaas”. He has also worked with Anubhav Sinha who made “Sea Hawks” with Om Puri and Dr Mohan Agashe. Currently Mahesh Kalra is making music videos and is also managing events.
