Tanmay, Dhruv sail into TT semi-finals New Delhi, July 22 In the sub-junior girls pre-quarter-finals, Kanchi Sethi of Convent of Rani Jhansi School created a mild upset when she beat Nishtha Garg 11-5, 13-11, 8-11, 11-8. Devgani Dhingra beat Mehar Malhotra 11-4, 11-1 to win the tiny tots girls title. In the semi-finals, Devgani beat Kendra Gandhi 11-0, 11-1 while Mehar beat Aashna Sachdeva 11-1, 11-2. Kendra Gandhi beat Aashna Sachdeva to take the third place. In the midget category title clash, Maitrey Mahajan beat Bharat Kumar 11-6, 11-6. In the semi-finals, Bharat beat Harsh Gupta 11-9, 9-11, 11-9 while Maitreyi beat Abhishek Srivastava 11-6, 11-5. Harsh Gupta beat Abhishek Srivastava 9-11, 11-5, 11-8 to finish third. Raghav Pangasa beat Sahil Sachdeva 11-4, 12-10 to lift the tiny tots boys title. In the semi-finals, Raghav beat Priyank Sood 12-10, 13-11 while Sahil Sachdeva beat Anmol Kumar 11-7, 11-6. Priyank beat Anmol Kumar 11-7, 11-9 for the third place. Ahbab edges past Frontier in Delhi Soccer New Delhi, July 22 Hans Club and Panchkuian were locked in a 1-1 draw in a Group II match. Hans took the lead in the 36th minute through Ahish Ghdiyal while Rajesh Rawat drew level for Panchkuian in the 55th minute. Hans have collected two points from two matches while Panchkuian have earned four points from two matches. Royal Rangers drubbed State Bank of India 4-0 in a Group I match at the Ambedkar Stadium. Rangers led by two goals at the interval. Joy Paul Raj scored the first goal in the 17th minute while Neeraj Ekka struck home the second goal a minute later. Inside-left Deo Sam increased the lead in the 51st minute while Neeraj Ekka completed the tally in the 54th minute. Royal Rangers have collected six points from two matches while State Bank have not yet opened their account. In a Group III match at the Nehru Stadium, Delhi Cantt came from behind to hold Garhwal Diamond 1-1. Garhwal Diamond took the lead in the 14th minute through Devender Rawat while Jagdeep equalised for Delhi Cantt. in the 38th minute. Delhi drub Haryana in Under-16 soccer New Delhi: Delhi drubbed Haryana 3-0 in a Group II league match of the Sub-Junior (Under-16) National Football Championship for the Dr Mir Iqbal Hussain Trophy at Haldwani in
Uttranchal. The highlight of the match was a brilliant hat-trick by inside-right Anand
Kabui. Kabui scored the first goal in the 17th minute while the second goal was netted in the 44th minute. He completed his hat-trick in the 58th minute. Delhi had lost to Punjab by two goals to nil in their opening match. Delhi play against Chandigarh in their last match of the group on July 24.

Girls to be trained in judo, volleyball in sports nurseries Sonepat, July 22 According to the district sports officer, V S Dalal, in these two nurseries, the girls will be trained in Judo and Volleyball. With this, the number of sports nurseries in the district are three now with boys’ wrestling nursery at Kharkhoda, he said. He also stated that as the district had achieved distinctions in various sports activities including wrestling, kabbadi and athletics, the department has increased the number of coaches to 23 in the district. These trainers will train the youngsters even in villages in different sports. He said that the hefty cash awards being given by the state government to the winners in the Asian and Commonwealth Games have lured the youngsters towards sports. The awards include Rs one crore for gold medal winner, Rs 50 lakh to a silver medal winner and Rs 25 lakh to a bronze medal winner in Olympic games; Rs 10 lakh, Rs 7 lakh and Rs 5 lakh to gold, silver and bronze medal winners in Asian games respectively. Similarly, the winners of these medals in Commonwealth games are being given cash awards of Rs 7 lakh, Rs 5 lakh and Rs 3 lakh respectively, he said. |
