STD awareness campaign today
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, June 30
The Delhi State AIDS Control Society will launch a campaign tomorrow to sensitise the people to the sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit will inaugurate the campaign at the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) dispensary in Sanjay Amar Colony near Vijay Ghat.

Health Minister AK Walia told mediapersons today that only 35 per cent of the population of NCT of Delhi had ever heard of STDs. Therefore, the campaign was necessary. Special focus, he said, would be on people living in the slums.

The minister said 580 camps would be set up in hospitals, health centres and dispensaries of the Government of NCT of Delhi and select private nursing homes. Patients, he told reporters, would be treated even after the campaign ended on July 7.
