Fortis unveils health initiatives

Dr R.V. Karanjekar, medical director, Fortis Heart Institute and Multi-Speciality Hospital, today unveiled a series of health initiatives to mark the second anniversary of the hospital.

Talking to mediapersons here, he announced the completion of over 1,000 cardiac surgeries and over 5,000 Cath procedures during its second year of operations, making it one of the fastest growing cardiac centres in the country. He said during the month-long anniversary celebrations, people of the region could benefit from free consultation with experts, public lectures by eminent medical professionals, health camps and special discounts on select diagnostic and treatment procedures. In addition, a series of seminars on cardiac care and other multi-specialities for non-medical and medical fraternity would be organised. Heart procedures at highly subsidised charges would be available to the people of this region. More than a dozen multi-speciality health camps would also be organised for providing free consultation in the various specialities, including pediatrics, pulmonology, rheumatology, psychiatry, nephrology, health packages, gastroentrology, dermatology, endocrinology, orthopedics, gynecology, ophthalmology, and neurology.

Dr Karanjekar said that during second year of operation, Fortis had gained recognition for offering the highest quality of medical care amongst both the medical fraternity and the general public. Over 43,000 patients had come for treatment at the hospital during this period.

It had also conducted a wide range of difficult and complex heart surgeries and procedures, including multiple surgeries, valve surgeries, pediatric surgeries, bental, carotid and those where the patients were suffering from multiple organ diseases. And the multi-speciality medical centre had performed over major 1600 surgeries in various other disciplines like neuro surgery, urology, orthopaedic surgery and general and laparoscopic surgery.

5-member team for chess meet

The Chandigarh Chess Association led by Mr Manmohan Singh will lead a team of five players for the National ‘B’ Chess Tournament to be held at Nagpur from July 30 to August 9. The following players will be part of the UT chess team: Naveen Bansal, Abhinandan Vohra, Sanjeev Biswas, Kanwar Sandeep Singh and Anmol Razdan.

Olympic Day celebrations: The Department of Sports and Youth Affairs, Chandigarh Administration, will organise the Olympic Day celebrations, tomorrow at the Hockey Stadium, Sector 42, for its coaches and technical staff. This was stated by Mr J.P.S. Sidhu, Joint Director Sports, UT Administration. He said the motto of the race was to bring awareness of the value of this day to the masses.

Weightlifting meet: The Chandigarh Weightlifting and Powerlifting Association will hold the Ist Sub-Junior Boys Chandigarh Weightlifting Championship and the 19th Senior Men and IVth sub-junior boys Chandigarh Powerlifting Championship beginning tomorrow at Sports Complex, Sector 42. According to Mr HS Bansal, secretary of the association, this two-day meet will have the weightlifting events on June 28 while the powerlifting events on June 29.

Notice on shrine demolition

A local court today issued notice to the UT Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) and the UT Estate Officer on the suit filed by Mr Labh Singh, head granthi of Baba Zorawar Singh Baba Fateh Singh foundation committee, Peer Colony, Sector 56. The note has been issued to file a reply in the case tomorrow.

In a civil suit filed through the counsel, the plaintiff has prayed for permanent injunction restraining the ADC and the Estate Officer not to demolish the religious place at Palsora village which is run by the Baba Zorawar Singh Baba Fateh Singh foundation committee.

Acting on the application moved by one of the accused, Navjot Singh, alleged to be involved in the Beant Singh assassination case, a local court today allowed the Oath Commissioner to attest the affidavit of another accused, Jagtar Singh Tara, in the case in Model Burail Jail.

It was stated in the application that the Tara had moved an application in the court that he wanted to give an affidavit that Navjot Singh was not involved in the case. The application moved by Tara had already been allowed by the court.

Navjot Singh has prayed in the application that the Superintendent of Model Burail Jail be directed to allow the Oath Commissioner to attest the affidavit of Jagtar Singh Tara on the jail premises.

UT depts told to expedite projects

All departments of the Chandigarh Administration have been asked to speed up the process of granting approvals to various schemes for new projects. The Adviser to the UT Administrator, Mr Virendra Singh, while chairing the bi-annual senior officers’ conference, asked the departments to monitor all projects closely and speed up the process of implementation.

The departments have also been asked to fix a target for reducing audit objections against each of them. The Adviser has directed the departments to set targets and follow them.

On the issue of early approvals for schemes, it was observed that sanctions were normally given towards the end of the financial year. Thus the money earmarked for schemes invariably lapsed.
