Fine show by Sukhmanvir at shooting camp

Chandigarh, June 15
Sukhmanvir Singh stole the limelight in the air rifle ISSF men section of the Shooting Sports Training Camp, organised by the Chandigarh Rifle Association, at the Sector 25 shooting range here today. He shot 356/400.

Gurdev Singh shot 365/400 in the air pistol ISSF men section, while in the air pistol women section, Parveen Kaur shot 332/400. In the air rifle open sight (NR) section, Jogeshwar Singh shot 319/400 to remain at top.

ICL League Cricket

A superb show by Arun Singla, who scored unbeaten 58 runs, and Arpinder Bedi with a valuable knock of 51 runs, helped Nestle XI in beating Chandigarh Youth XI by 72 runs, to make their way to the final of the ICL League Cricket Tournament here on Sunday at Satluj Public School, Sector 4, Panchkula.

Brief scores: Nestle XI: 237 for seven in 25 overs (Arun Singla 58 n.o., Arpinder Bedi 51, Rakesh Purang 44, Navtej Gill 34, Amandeep ‘junior’ 2 for 31, Harit Sharma 4 for 19, Sameer 2 for 29). CY XI: 165 all out (Rohin Rana 74, Somesh 35, Adarsh 24, Mayur 4 for 29, Arun Singla 2 for 27, Karan Sharma 2 for 31, Sandeep Sandhu 2 for 34).

Haryana Tourism XI win

An unbeaten knock of 65 runs by Arun Sood, enabled Haryana Tourism XI in beating Minerva Academy by six wickets to win the final of the Second Haryana Tourism League Cricket Tournament at Satluj Public school, Sector 4, Panchkula. Minerva Academy players scored 186 runs for the loss of nine wickets, while Haryana Tourism XI scored 188 runs for the loss of four wickets in 21.5 overs.

Samsung XI in semis

Samsung XI defeated Youth Gear XI by four wickets to enter the semifinal of the 3rd Samsung League Cricket Meet played here on Sunday. Youth Gear XI scored 153 runs.

Samsung XI achieved the target with still four wickets in hand. The cricket meet is being organised by the Chandigarh Cricket Association.

Football coaching camp ends

Chandigarh, June 15
The annual summer football coaching camp organised by the Master Mehar Singh Memorial Football Club concluded at Kurali yesterday.

According to Mr A.K. Kaushal, president of the Ropar District Football Association, coaching was imparted to children in three age groups i.e. under 14, under 17 and under 19. As many as 75 boys from Mohali, Khizrabad, Power Colony, Ropar, and nearby areas participated.

Five coaching sessions were supervised by former Asian star and international footballer Parminder Singh. The children were provided free diet and Nivia balls.

Theory classes were also conducted for the benefit of the participants under the supervision of Dr S.S. Chawla.

At the prize distribution function yesterday, three boys, one in each age group, were selected for special honours. They were Jasjeet Singh, Ajay Singh, and Gurjinder Singh. All of them had recorded outstanding improvement during the camp.
