Charanjit XI beat Samrat Coolers XI

Fine batting by Amrinder (77), Atul Kohli (24) and Puneet (23) enabled Charanjit Singh Ahluwalia XI to score a 101-run victory against Samrat Coolers XI in the inaugural match of the VIIth Chaman Lal Malhotra Cricket Cup Tournament (under-14) being organised by the Ludhiana District Cricket Association (LDCA) at the Arya College for Boys ground here today.

Charanjit XI won the toss and elected to bat first. Openers, Atul Kohli and Puneet, gave a solid start by scoring 57 runs for the first wicket. In their quota of 30 overs, Charanjit XI scored 182 for the loss of eight wickets. For Samrat Coolers XI, right-arm leg spinner, Amit Dawar, a Class VIII student of SAN Jain Model Senior Secondary School, Circular road, bowled a good line and length. He claimed three wickets by giving 33 runs.

Chasing the target, Samrat Coolers XI batsmen failed to properly face the bowling of Deepak, Rohan and Jashanpreet, who grabbed two wickets each. The innings folded at 81 runs with only, Sahil (17) reaching the double figure mark.

Earlier, Mr Y.K. Saxena, Additional Commissioner, Income Tax, Ludhiana, inaugurated the tournament in which four teams — Prof FC Chopra XI, Anil Bharti XI, Charanjit Singh Ahluwalia XI and Samrat Coolers XI — are taking part.

Mr Chaman Lal Malhotra, former Punjab Ranji captain and chairman, selection committee, Punjab (seniors), Mr Charanjit Singh, life president, LDCA, Prof F.C. Chopra, former Principal, SD Government College for Boys, Mr Rajinder Mahajan, president, LDCA, other officer-bearers of the association and parents of players were present at the inaugural function.
