Lecture on railway safety

Ludhiana, May 5
A lecture on railway safety was held today at the Guru Nanak Institute of Management and Technology, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town, Ludhiana, for the students of BBA and BCA. The guest speaker on the occasion was Mr P.L. Ahuja, former in charge, Railway Safety Training Centre, Northern Region. He enlightened the audience regarding the need for observing safety guidelines while travelling in trains and also while passing through railway crossings.

Advocating the role of Railways in national development, Mr Ahuja said the importance of Railways cannot be undermined. It is one of the widely used modes of transport in India and provides an economical service to the users.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr A.S. Bansal, Director, GNIMT, emphasised the need for knowledge regarding railway safety.

Police remand for cop

Ludhiana, May 5
Head Constable Kuldip Singh, posted at Ludhiana, who was arrested by Mr Arvind Puri, SHO, Sidhwanbet police station, was today remanded to one-day police custody for further interrogation by Mr .S. Grewal, Judicial Magistrate, Jagraon. OC

‘Surmai Sham’ organised

The Punjabi Sahitya Academy organised “Surmai Sham” at Punjabi Bhavan yesterday evening. Mr Bir Devinder Singh, Deputy Speaker, Vidhan Sabha, was the chief guest.
In his address, he stressed that such programmes should be organised even at village level.

Ramesh Bhagat of Amritsar presented Punjabi, Urdu and Hindi poetry. He recited poems of Shiv Kumar Batalvi, “Ki pucchade ho haal fakeeran da”, Urdu gazal “Vahi mizaz vahi chal hai zamaane ki, hamein bhi ho gayee hai aadat fareb khane ki” and Punjabi gazal of Dr Surjit Pattar Laggi jo tere kalje hale churi nahi, eh na smajh ki shahar di halat buri nahin.”

Singer Diljeet Singh recited poetry by Bulle Shah, Shiv Kumar Batalvi, Dr Surjit Pattar and Prof Gurbhajan Gill.

Sharing his experience, Diljeet said, “I started singing when I was in Class III and in 1978 I sang for Ranchi Radio Station while I was completing my degree in engineering.”

Among others who were present on the occasion included Jaswant Zafar, Prof Ravinder Bhatthal and Dr Tejwant Singh Gill.
