Preeti wins inter-school debate

Ludhiana, April 29
An inter-school debate was organised by Vardhman Spinning and General Mills at Kundan Vidya Mandir, Civil Lines, here today.
Two students each from 10 schools of the city took part in the debate on “Men have failed, let women take over.” The participating schools were Guru Nanak Public School, DAV Public School, USPC Jain Public School, Scared Heart Senior Secondary School, BRS Nagar, Tagore Public School, BCM Arya Model Senior Secondary School, GRD Academy and Atam Public Senior Secondary School besides the hosts.

Preeti Lamba of KVM bagged the first prize, Ishneet of sacred Heart Senior Secondary School stood second while Roopam of DAV Public School was declared third. Consolation prizes went to Shruti from Atam Public School and Supreet from GRD Academy. KVM also won the overall trophy, thus, retaining it for the third consecutive year.

Renuka Shahane, and brand ambassador of Vardhman, gave prizes to the students. Mr V.K. Goyal, Chief Executive Officer of the company, was also present on the occasion.

Dr Kang nominated  to council

Ludhiana, April 29
Dr K.N.S. Kang, Dean, Management Studies of Punjab Technical University and Director of the Punjab College of Technical Education, has been nominated to the Interim Council of Distance Education Programmes of the university for revamping the performance and setting new standards for the programmes.

On the basis of the recommendations of task force of the PTU, an interim council of eight professionals from different fields has been constituted.

The council would be responsible for implementing the recommendations of the task force in order to streamline the functioning of the programmes.

A musical evening by Dhvani

Ludhiana, April 29
To mark its first anniversary, Dhvani, a cultural group, organised a musical evening “Karvan” at Punjabi Bhavan yesterday. Anil Kumar, secretary of the organisation, highlighted the achievements of Dhvani at the musical evening.

Tributes were paid to late Kishore Kumar Kanojia, who was a leading sound manager of the city.

Dr Kewal Dheer, Mr Jagdev Singh Jassowal, Dr Surjit Patar, Prof N.K. Kalia paid tributes to Kishore Kumar Kanojia who had rendered a yeoman’s service to cultural school, college and social functions held in the city for more than three decades.

The musical evening included several songs and ghazals from films and outside films. It was Ravneet who entertained the audience with Shiv Kumar Batalvi’s song “Kuchh Rukh Meine” while Ashima presented a song of Surjeet Patar and Kulwant Singh presented a ghazal of “Faiz ab Kalan Rasam”.

Followed by him was Rakhi Kanwal who rekindled the old composition of “Qteel shafai ulfat ki nayee manzil ko chala” while Anil Jain sang the ghazal “Ye tere pyar ki tamanna” and John Bhatti presented Nassir Kazmi’s ghazal “Gham hai ya khushi hai tu”. Nasir Jaunpuri from Kanpur also participated in the programme and recited few of his ghazals. Dr Surjit Patar was presented a painting by one of his former student Nona Khanna.
