Khalsa School to meet Sirsa

New Delhi, April 22
Doaba Khalsa Senior Secondary School, Jalandhar will take on Sri Guru Hari Singh (SGHS) Mahavidyalaya, Sirsa (Haryana) in the final of the inaugural All-India Sahibzada Ajit Singh Gold Cup Hockey Tournament at the Shivaji Stadium on Wednesday.

In the semi-finals on Tuesday, the Jalandhar School trounced hosts Guru Harkrishan Public School (GHPS), Loni Road, Delhi 4-1 while the Sirsa School stroked out Khalsa College, Amritsar 6-5 via sudden death tie-breaker.

In a lop-sided match, Jalandhar scored all the four goals in the first half, and conceded a goal in the second half.

Shivbir Singh put Jalandhar in the lead in the second minute and he struck home the second goal too, in the 18th minute. Harpreet Bansal converted a penalty corner to net the third goal in the 29thh minute while Sharanjit Sing rounded off the tally in the 34th minute.

Mudit Garg scored off a penalty corner to get the consolation goal for GHPS 13 minutes into the second half.

In a hard-fought second semi-final, Sirsa and Amritsar were locked 1-1 at the end of the regulation time. Gurvinder Singh put Sirsa in the lead in the 23rd minute by converting a penalty corner while Jadeep Kumar netted the equaliser for Amritsar when he converted a penalty stroke in the 27th minute.

Both the teams scored three goals each during the tie-breaker when Gurvinder Singh, Hardev Singh and Amjar Singh found the mark for Sirsa and Inderpal Singh, Jadeep Kumar and Surinder Singh scored for Amritsar. With the match deadlocked at 4-4, sudden-death tie-breaker was enforced in which Sirsa came up trumps. Onkar Singh, Hardev Singh and Ajmer Singh got the goals for Sirsa while only

Inderpal Singh and Jadeep Kumar could hit the bull’s eye for Amritsar, with Lovpreet Singh missing the mark.

GHPS Loni Road will take on Khalsa College, Amritsar in the match for the third place.

Sarvesh shines with bat for Vijayanti

A debonair knock of 73, off 93 balls and studded with nine fours, by Sarvesh Bhatnagar enabled Vijayanti Devi Cricket Academy, Agra beat State Bank of Patiala by two wickets and entered the quarter-final of the 13th All-India Om Nath Sood Memorial Cricket Tournament at the Khalsa College ground on Tuesday.

Vijayanti, chasing a modest target of 210, were in deep waters when they struggled at 11 for 3 in the first five overs. But Dheeraj Sharma and Sarvesh Bhatnagar steadied the innings with responsible knocks to put Vijayanti on the victory trail.

The sloppy fielding by the bankmen, who dropped three catches and missed four run out chances, also contributed to Vijayanti’s victory.

Sarvesh Bhatnagar was presented the Pepsi man of the match award by chief guest Pargat Singh.

Kishan Ganj Gym win

Kishan Ganj Gymkhana defeated Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) by 23 runs in an A-I Division match of the DDCA Super League at the Jamia Milia ground

Scores: Kishan Ganj Gymkhana: 209 for 9 in 40 overs (Mrinal Saini 81, Jagjit Singh 24, Dharamveer Baniwal 3 for 35, John Anthony 3 for 46).

MCD: 179 all out in 38.5 overs (Pankja Malik 43 n o, Jagjeet Singh 3 for 23).

Ashoka Club beat City Gymkhana by three wickets in a B Division match at the Central Secretariat ground.

Rajinder, Mauz Pal star for Delhi Admn

A swashbuckling century by Rajinder Bhardwaj (107, 13x4) and a devastating 5 for 31 bowling spell by Mauz Pal Singh enabled Delhi Administration defeat Subhania Club by 57 runs and entered the quarter-final of the 12th Shera Pandit Memorial Cricket Tournament at the Mohan Meakins ground, Mohan Nagar.

Scores: Delhi Administration: 203 for 9 in 40 overs (Rajinder Bhardwaj 107, Mukul Koranga 37, 2x4; Sachin 3 for 16, Amit Sharma 2 for 42, Manish 2 for 45).

Subhania Club: 146 all out in 38.4 overs (Amit Sharma 28, 3x4; Gaurav 24, Sachin 21, Mauz Pal Singh 5 for 31, Anand Singh 2 for 27).

Aryavrat to honour Achrekar

Aryavrat Sports Club, Paschim Vihar will honour veteran cricket coach Rama Kant Achrekar with the Aryavrat Khel Ratan Award on the occasion of his famous disciple, Sachin Tendulkar’s 30th birth day, on April 24. Thirty young cricketers will also be honoured on the occasion.

Vijay Dahiya to lead

Vijay Dahiya will lead the 15-member Delhi team in the Ranji Trophy semi-final clash against Tamilnadu to be held at the Ferozeshah Kotla ground from April 25 to 29.

The senior selection committee meeting, held at the Delhi and District Cricket Association premises, was attended by chairman Chetan Chauhan, national selector Kirti Azad, sports secretary Sunil Dev (convenor), chief coach Bishan Singh Bedi, Anil Jain, Sunil Khanna, Surender Khanna, Venkat Sunderam and Vijay Dahiya.

Other members of the team are Akash Chopra, Gautam Gambhir, Virender Sehwag, Mithun Manhas, Sarandeep Singh, Varun Kumar, Rahul Sanghvi, Amit Bhandari, Sanjay Gill, Arun Singh, Pradeep Chawla, Siddharth Verma, N S Negi and Harender Chaudhary.

HCL beat Bechtel

HCL Technologies defeated Bechtel by six wickets in the Reebok Cricket Tournament.

Bharat National annex GMCA title

New Delhi, April 22
A fine knock of 32 by man of the match Varun Bali and deadly bowling of 3 for 32 by Rahul Pandey helped Bharat National Public School Academy defeat Sumit Dogra Academy by four wickets and annex the title in the inaugural All-India Ghaziabad Mahanagar Cricket Academy (GMCA) Under-14 Tournament at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Ghaziabad.

President of the tournament committee Kamal Sekhar and chief guest Surender Goyal gave away the prizes. Sameer Khurana was named the best batsman of the tournament while the best bowler award went to Rahul Pandey. Tarun Chauhan got the best fielder award while the man of the tournament award went to Sahil Kher.

Scores: Sumit Dogra Academy: 121 all out in 28.2 overs (Lakshay Mohan 43, Piyush Negi 35, Rahul Pandey 3 for 32, Saurabh Nischal 2 for 30, Sameer Khurana 2 for 2).

R P Academy beat Delhi Administration by three runs in a league match of the second Rajdhani Cup Cricket Tournament at the Najafgarh Sports Club ground.

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation beat Clintus by 23 runs in the Friendship Cup at the Teri Oval ground.
